Help me get into Cornell

Hey I am a community college student from Spartanburg South Carolina. I will have a 3.5 when i graduate in may of 08. My high school gpa was a 2.75 and my sats were ok. I have called around to colleges like the university of boston and cornell and they say that they do not really look at GPAs and SATs but more on ecs and recommendations. I was just wanting some advice and the stats of people who have been admitted to Cornell. I want to attend the college of arts and sciences thanks for all your help.

well, your gpa isnt high enough, and high school information is always looked at, and its not high enough either. Sorry, but i think it would be a waste even if you apply to the easier schools within cornell. Why dont you aim at schools within your range...like Umich, Mich state, Ufl, UNC, or something...

when you graduate, as in graduate with your associates degree? ive never heard of the university of boston, i think its boston university...i really dont think you have a shot man, no offense. you may have one at boston university though.

yea it is the university of boston sorry i just need helpfully information like schools i might have a shot getting into and i called cornell and they said that the average gpa of a transfer accepted student was a 3.5 thanks

is it a public school or something? ive never heard of it

the average is a 3.5, but not all applicants are coming from community colleges. To compare, you must be able to note that hard schools like Swarthmore, Uchi, Northwestern, etc are going to deflate their grades and a 3.3 (an example), from a school like those mentioned, is probably a 4.0 at a community college. In order to get into cornell from a CC, it is recommended that your gpa is higher than the minimum or the average.

If you can get the GPA to a 3.9(beg teachers, ask for extra credit, let them know your situation), write some kick ass essays, and get solid reccomendations, coupled with some good EC's, I think you can make it.

Does cornell look at race?

there's no such thing as university of boston...its boston university

You said that you will have a 3.5 when you graduate in one year -- what is your GPA currently?

cornell cas - 8% transfer acceptance
i think you could have a shot at bu, no guarantees

Perhaps you are talking about UMass Boston. And you are out of your mind. You don't go Ivy League after screwing off in high school and attending community college. Is this a joke?

ndfreak7- that's not necessarily true. i went to community college w/ a friend that had a 2.0 in hs and got into both cornell and columbia. it wasn't easy, but it can be done

What was his/her college GPA?

thanks for all your help you guys i would just really love to get into cornell its like a dream i have also looked at boston university university of miami tulane university of colorado at boulder and georgetown

ndfreak- he had a 3.9 and will be attending ilr at cornell. nothing is impossible, but it makes it a lot easier if you do well in hs
