Hi guys...

I'm planning to become an MD. I'm moving over to the United States this Sept and will be joining Grade 11 @high school.

Can someone please tell me the prerequisites for premed courses?
ie. tell me which AP and Honors courses I should be taking in high school?
(AP Bio, Phy, Chem, Calculus AB/BC, Statistics
and Honors English, Pre-Calculus is what im planning for my 2 years in high school)

What are the colleges out there that offer the best premed programmes?

Also, should I write the SAT or the ACT. I'm really weak at the reading comprehensions and vocab part on the SAT. My strengths are Mathematics and Science.

One problem I have on the ACT is time management. Often leaving out 6-8 questions on each section on the practice timed tests I take at home. Any suggestions on that?

Thanks a lot and really appreciate all responses. Cheers :)

I have moved your thread to the Premed Topics forum so that you can get a better understanding about preparation for applying to medical school in the US. Please start with the Resources sticky thread at the top of the forum.

For your questions about standardized testing, please post separate threads on the SAT/ACT Prep forums (it works best here on CC to write threads that address a single topic and post them on the most appropriate forum).

Are you a US citizen or green card holder?

This fact more than anything else you do will impact your ability to enroll in med school in the US. It is quite difficult for a non-citizen or non-permanent resident to get accepted into any US medical school. (Mostly because most medical schools will not consider internationals for admission. Fewer than 200 enroll in all US med school together in a given year.)

Med school pre-requisities are college classes. What you take in high school has no bearing on your later eligibility for medical school.

Almost any college in the US will offer the classes you need for med school admission and to prepare for the MCAT. Students should chose a school that offer the best combination of fit, affordabiiity and opportunity. That choice will be different for every individual.
