Help me guys !

Hi everyone

I’m a french student who want to study in USA, before, I wanted to study in some good french schools, but, 3 months ago I choosed to try application for some good university in USA ( you know I’m this guy who always say that there is a chance).

So the fact is that I was lost because no one could help me with the way to do in order to get into american university, then, unfortunately, I had to take the SAT without any prep, and I was a little bit lost because i wasn’t prepared, the type of test is different than french test, and there were some skills in maths that i didn’t still get in high school in france … But I still choosed to take it and I got a … 1070 / 1600 …

And that’s the problem . In france i have good grades, I have a good english, and I know that I am able to get something like 1400 ; 1500 or more, but it’s too late for 2017 appilcation …

So I wouldlike you guys, who know american college better than me, to tell me, if I have a chance to get into the following university, even if it’s a very small chance.

So I applied to these university :

  • MIT
  • Harvard
  • Standford
  • Berkeley
  • Princeton
  • Caltech
  • Columbia
  • Yale
  • Cornell
  • UCLA

All are out of your Reach for this application cycle. Study for the SAT and reapply for Fall 2018.

Are you sure ?

I heard that people with similar results got into Berkeley or UCLA, don’t you think it’s possible for me ?

Not with a 1070 SAT score. Think at least 1400+.

That was on a forum, and people were saying that they knew some people who got into UCLA with 1050 / 1100 …

Usually recruited athletes and special circumstance applicants may get an acceptance, but for the average applicant you are looking at the numbers I posted. Also do not believe everything you see posted here. Check out each schools website…

Ok Thanks for your answer …

Do you know any good school i could apply to and, why not, get into ?

Are you in need of financial aid? Any particular part of the US? Intended Major? Private/Public/Large/Small schools?

Need some guidelines before making some suggestions.

If you don’t need financial aid, you could still attend a community college that feeds into a state flagship school. Community colleges are open access and many have programs that attract international students. (Your English is perfectly understandable, but stilted. You could benefit from a good transition-to-American-education writing class at a community college.) A year of taking classes 100% in American English will also help your SAT scores.

Yes I need financial aid (don’t forget that I am an international student), I don’t have any pref for any part of the US, maybe close of big city ? Intended major, Engineering / Computer science / Physics.
Private school would be better for financial aid I guess ? The most important is the reputation of the school

Just another question, Is it possible for me to re-take the SAT after my first year in " Classe Préparatoire " (in france it’s the principal way to get engineering school and best french school), so 1 year after the end of the high school, and then apply to these university ?

How much can you and your parents pay/ year? If you need FA, why were you targeting UCLA/UCB which gives no FA for International applicants???

I am only familiar with California schools. Any schools with a good International name recognition/reputation are out of your league unless you bump up those test scores.
You could look at Santa Clara, University of Redlands possibly University of San Francisco and University of San Diego which are all privates.

I expected to find financial aid from other sources ^^

What a bout the question I asked you. Is it possible ? I forgot, it would be to apply as a freshman 1 years after the end of high school

Freshmen are those who have not taken college level classes after graduating high school. If you are earning college credit in the Classe Préparatoire, you would apply as a transfer student.

You can retake the SAT after graduating high school, not a problem.

I am not an expert on financial aid for internationals, but I do know that aid for internationals is generally hard to come by. You need to research carefully how you will pay for any school you apply to.

Thanks for your answer !

In fact, the Classe Préparatoire, is not really like a college, so I don’t know if I would have to apply as a transfer student.
For exemple, I could apply in any majors and i would probably don’t know anything about it (except maths and physics)

You would need to check with each US college to see if they would consider you a transfer student or not. Each college will have different requirements.

You need to do more research on US colleges since you seem not to have much knowledge.
