Help me out... chance me for a few schools

Hey Ill begin my senior year in september, the schools im interested in are Syracuse University, Stony Brook University, Hofstra University,Boston College, and Boston University. Syracuse is the school I would really love to go to

OK here are my stats...

Freshman year, I didnt care about school so much, finished the year with a 78 or 2.4 GPA

Sophmore Year, I really thought about how bad I did, and what I wanted to do with my future, I finshed the year with a 3.3 GPA

Junior Year, I did alot better,3.6 GPA(took an elective called Special Topics in Science, I think it was worth noting)

Senior Year,-Im in college level english classes, college level social studies classes, college level spanish 5, pre-calc, im taking AP Bio, physics, and a Science Research Class, my schedule is really packed, AP Bio, Sci. Research,Spanish 5,and pre-calc are weighted, the other classes are still college level,im gona work my *** off to get A's atleast for the first semester, so that colleges see them

Other Stats

-I got a 1700 onSAT,im studying hard this summer,going for atleast 1800 infall

-Ill take the SAT Subject Tests in Literature, and Mathmatics 1

-Spanish Honor Society for two years

-Ive been volunteering at a nursing home for about a year now

-In New York State STEP program (Science Technology Entry Program), program for underepresented minorites, helps kids get involved with many different science programs

-Ive been in two Science Research competitions

-I know Ill get atleast one AMAZING reccomendation from the teacher that saw me go from a really bad, obnoxious student, to a hard worker , and determined to be succesful, had him in tenth grade for bio, 11th for Special Topics in Science,12th for Science Research

-Im hispanic, my family has a low income (40,000.... maybe less), ill be first to go to college in my family

Re Syracuse- if you want to get into CAS, I think you have an excellent shot. Try to interview or show some interest in them.
I’m sure you’ll get into Hofstra too - with money.
Best of luck with getting those A’s.

But with enough money? All of these schools other than BC are unlikely to give a low income student enough aid to attend.

Do you think these schools wouldnt give me enough aid?

Yes, other than BC these are schools that rarely meet need. They use their aid to attract candidates with high stats. It would be unlikely they would even come close to meeting your need. These are not schools looking for low income students as sometimes CC makes it seem all colleges are.

Check on the college board site for schools that meet 100% of need. The issue is they are mostly top schools, but if you can raise the SAT and keep your grades up, you may be able to shoot for some as a URM.

bump…

i would raise the gpa but i think syracuse is an in

Nice :), any one else? Come on pple I know your all out there

First of all thanks for taking a look at my stuff! But from what I know I think you are definitely in at Syracuse. BC might be a little bit tougher, but with your background and if you do raise those test scores I think you’ll have a good shot. Sorry I dont know more about the other schools you mentioned but good luck on your upcoming SAT!

Decent shot, academics and EC’s are a little low.

If you got your SAT up a little more, you should stand a shot at cuse and BU. don’t know much about the other schools

I’d say 0% chance for Boston College if you weren’t a low-income Hispanic… :)

Try Stony Brook, do you live Upstate?
