And Im in the top 5% of my class. But the thing is Im applying for need based aid.

I dont think Emory is need blind. So could you please let me know what are my chances of getting an admission along with aid, because I cant attend the college without it.

Emory is in fact a need-blind school, so the fact that you need aid shouldnt factor into the equation. I think you have great chances. All your test scores are good and you also have good grades. Any other significant ec's? If your essays are good, you should have great chances.

first of all, thanks a ton for your reply. it kind of made my day:). well yes, i did serve in a trust run hospital, but then i couldn't include the certificate in the application, so i dont know if i can make it count.

To my knowledge, although Emory is a "need blind" school in their admission practices, the university does not offer need-based financial aid to international students (contrary to what siri4fun mentioned above). International students are asked to submit a financial verification form as part of the admission process. You may be eligible for a merit-based scholarship, but be forewarned that they are extremely competitive, and a merit award to an international student is rare.

If you have questions, you may want to ask the Office of Admission.

Thank you for your help, NorCalDad. As you say, Emory does not offer need based aid to internationals. They say so on their website. But the thing is, the collegeboard reports they provide substantial aid to internationals. It is for this reason that I chose to apply there.Anyways, thanks for your help.

I just checked the CollegeBoard website for Profile > Emory University > International Students, and under Financial Aid, it states, "International students eligible for non-need-based aid".

The non-need-based aid is in reference to "merit-based" awards (vs. "need-based"). As I mentioned earlier, merit scholarships are very competitive.

As such, the CollegeBoard information is therefore correct, although not what you were wanting to hear. Good luck to you.

(Incidentally, I find that the best source of information about Emory will usually come from an Emory University official. With so many aspects of admissions, financial aid, housing, etc. always in a state of flux, information previously accurate may have changed more recently.)
