I'm a junior in high school. I have a 3.8 unweighted GPA and an SAT score of 1650(I'm going to retake it in June). I am really worried about my extracurriculars. I've been in the church choir for 3 years. I am thinking of working in a summer camp over the summer to increase my volunteer hours from 50 to 150 or so. I was also in orchestra and guitar for two years. I am also thinking of working at a restaurant over the summer. I also babysat and tutored children for one year. What are my chances of getting into Penn state(not the Ivy leaugue), towson university, and George mason? Do you know of any schools that I could possibly get into in Maryland, virginia, New York, Delaware, and Pennsylvania? Please help me!!!!!! I will respond to one of your threads if you respond to mine! Thnx so much!!!!!!☺️☺️☺️

You should try to up your SAT scores to 1800+ for very good chances to the schools you have metioned because you have a good gpa. You should look into University of Maryland-College Park and University of Deleware, if you can get an SAT score in the 1800’s. In New York, NYU is a good school which you should look into.

You have to get your SAT up to an 1800+ if you want a decent shot at these schools. Your extracurriculars are decent but sort of scattered.

@Justin23L @Abhi19: yeah I got a 1650 on the sat when I took it for the first time. My goal is at least a 1800 by June or October

I’d place your list schools at a high match or a low reach. Your GPA is great for those schools and you have some varied EC’s, though I agree with Justin23L in that you should try to find more that tie together. Your current SAT score is really the only thing holding you back, which is good since you’re retaking it in June.

for schools in NY, definitely look into the CUNY system for good matches/safeties with your current stats. if you can raise that sat score, the higher-ranking SUNY schools should also become matches. if you’re looking for a good tech education and are okay with settling for a new jersey school less than a mile from NYC, Stevens Institute of Technology would be a great match (given a score increase).

Penn state I think you have a good shot if you live in PA. Also maybe try Pitt (make sure you apply as early as possible to pitt to increase chances). I would consider applying to allegheny in pa if you get those scores up a bit!

I live in Maryland btw. Thanks to everyone who has helped me so far!

If you love in Maryland I think you’ll get in Maryland for sure with your stats

@NotreDame75: I hope so! is that enough extracurriculars for UMD?

I don’t know much about the schools you mentioned but I know your gpa and ecs are awesome! Like you’ve said, just work on your sat a bit you will be fine!!
