am from England and REALLY want to get into Middlebury college?
What would be acceptable A levels or GCSE's to get into Middlebury?
Im the first in my family to even consider university/colleges so im so lost.

My GCSE grades are;
English Literature B
English Language B
Media Studies A*
Religious Education B
Applied Science B/B
Textiles and product design B
Art B
Maths C
ICT A*

Im doing re-doing German as I was so awful and got a D! But I hope to get a B or an A would be nice!

My alevels are;
Media Studies - Predicted an A
English Literature - Predicted A or B
History - Predicted a B
Philosophy and Ethics - Predicted a B

I have hardly any extra curricular activities as there arnt common from where i am but ..
Im part of the mentory scheme at the school were we talk to troubled younger students about bullying, abuse etc.
Im part of the Reading tutoring scheme were you teach younger students who have problems with reading to read.

I was in photography club.

I have work experience at Paul Smith.

I've had 2 proper Jobs.

I do alot of ART outside of school.

And thats it, i used to do dance and art club but im not sure if they count as it was a long time ago.

Sorry for all of that waffling but what would you think my chances are as my grades are pretty average:\ I will be getting an activity that is more based around sport. But other than that..
PLEASE HELP. If i could have some suggestions to make my application stronger then that would be awesome!

Hey Paige,
I think dat ur getting stressed out unnecessarily coz colleges like Middlebury takes ur essays and extracurriculars into much consideration…
Personally, IMO in the case of EC’s, quality>quantity, a.k.a. u just need to prove dat ur passionate abt ur EC’s and personally, I think that the mentory scheme is gr8 and will have a much +ve effect on ur whole app…
Since I’m an Indian, I don’t noe much abt A-levels
IMO, u’ve got a shot at middlebury…
(though u shd apply 2 sum reaches & safeties too)

All d best…

Thankyou for the help!
That’s put my mind at ease for a little while anyway.

Are you a junior, or have you applied this year (if so, what were your SAT scores)?

If you are a senior, just wait what happens, you can never know!

If you are a junior, there a couple of things you could do:
- Ace your SATs, if you aim for at least a 2200, you are in a lot safer position.
- Try to get more involved in your ECs and expand them - do not randomly join clubs you will not enjoy-, say, for example, the mentoring group, you could try to get more students involved, make it a city-wide initiative, etc.
- Start early with writing essays and asking teachers for recommendation (suck up first :p); I only started writing my essays 2 days before the deadline: not advisable.
- Try to get your A-level predictions up; at least a AAAB! Are your A-level choices definit already? Media Studies might not be the most impressive one to choose; furthermore, you will want to have some maths/science courses. Wellroundedness in academics is emphasized in the US, unlike in UK admissions. It is good though, that you are taking 4 a-levels instead of the usual 3.

Good luck!

BTW: Try to find some similar LACs if you are set on studying in the US! Unfortunately, Middlebury is no longer needblind for international students, so you will want some financial safeties too.

Thankyou!:)

I will be applying after summer.
And yeah i understand media studies is portrayed as a ‘soft subject’ but I intend on getting to Journalism. Thats why i chose the more academic classes to almost balance it out. And i cant change my Alevels, how ever I could do 3 Alevels and 2 AS levels, but that isnt seen as impressive as the 4 Alevels. I guess i will just have to see my results and decide from them whether to start a new AS level or carry on with my 4 Alevels.

And hopefully my SAT results should be good, i started revising and practicing beginning of last year!
Thank you for all the help though, I will try and get more involved in the mentoring scheme. Next term i will be promoting the scheme to other years and students, so that should be good. But thankyou for the idea of promoting the idea in other schools.

Thankyou:)
