Chances of getting into UF??
I just recently applied to Summer B at the University of FLorida and I'm wondering what my chances are. I am a senior at Suncoast Community High School (the 9th best HS in the nation) in the IB program with a 3.47 GPa and 4.32 HPA. My class rank is 121/365 top third (not bad at Suncoast) yet my SAT scores arent very good with my max being an 1860 with a 600 in math and 630s in reading and writing. I have a number of community service activities and have been working at Publix since the end of my sophomore year. I have coached special olympics (my essay topic) since junior year and have also coached rec basketball and founded and became president of a Race for the Cure Club at my school. I'm afraid they won't look at it the same though because I started these activites junior year and they may think i'm padding my resume. I also was a JV school basketball player through Sophomore year (and was captain sophomore year) yet I stopped and stated in my resume that a knee injury kept me from playing junior year. I also played travel basketball through junior year.I'm also an NHS member and an AP Scholar with distinction

Just bump your old one.

You are a match at UF. You’re GPA and test scores put you in the middle 50% of the class. Your EC’s are fine. Think of it this way, over 25%+ of the folks admitted, last year, had worse stats. It’s never a “sure” thing at UF, due to Holistic admissions, but you are a match.

At this point, there is little you can do but wait. Make sure you’ve applied to a few safety schools, and try to put it out of your mind. Don’t let it drive you crazy.

Good Luck!

thank you. Anyone else

I think chance me’s for UF are useless. UF does have the most holistic admissions routine for a mid-high ranking public school.

I think there is some limit where you need to have a GPA or test scores or EC’s above it to have any chance. From there, it becomes a lottery where some lower-level applicants even get accepted over higher-level applications.

I think I was a lower-than-average applicant. I had just 2 AP’s and Baseball EC at some random, unrecognized high school, and I got in. Whereas someone I knew really did all he could to get into UF, 9 AP’s, SAT’s in the 2000’s (seriously how can you get this high?), and some strong EC’s, and ultimately he did not get in. Last I heard from him was he was in UCF but at least he’s liking it there.

My point: Sadly for a school where many qualified (and over-qualified) applicants who really would like a seat have to go through some raffle.

Your stats are definitely better than mine. I’d like to say you deserve a seat more than me, but no one can really guarantee it.

I think this applies to most chance me’s I come by on these forums.
