Hi, I live in Nova and i guess its my time to freak out about college. Just before we start this I remind you that I was obsessed with my sport. Alright, dream school: Virginia tech. I am going to be a senior this coming up year.
My gpa: 3.42
SAT: 1910
Club: crew, We have repeatedly broken school records(im a coxswain), got state and national medals(we're pretty good just saying)... yada yada yada you don't care.
other sport: cross country; but nothing that important. (doing it now and mediocre)
Clubs: various things such as debate, and random clubs.
Job: I work at pizza hut for a year now.
So basically I am trying to understand how i can still get into this school. I know they look at progression but my freshman year started out with a 3.55 then a big drop to 3.27 then a 3.6 for junior year.
Sophomore year was the year we went pretty far in crew so i became consumed with it, but junior year we went even further and I got better grades.. Does that mean anything? I'm just so confused right now so please tell me your thoughts.

Is that gpa weighted or unweighted? How many APs have you taken? what is your senior schedule?

its weighted I’ve taken a lot of Ap’s like world, computer science, us history, psych, BC calc. Next year I’m trying to max it, mostly all ap’s such as lit, gov, stat, econ, environmental, and other things i can’t get off the top of my head.

Your schedule seems plenty rigorous. As long as you and your guidance counselor feel you can handle it, that aspect seems very positive.

You should probably not apply early. Wait until you have some senior grades (better be good ones) to show them. If you can do that, I’d say you have a fair chance. Take SAT and ACT again and try to raise those scores.

Prepare a Plan B in the event you are not accepted. Find other affordable schools with the qualities that appeal to you. Work hard, be productive, but do not get all stressed out. It isn’t worth it. You WILL end up at a college that suits you if you have a good list of safeties and you work hard. Good luck!

Are you sure I will have a fair chance? Cause I’m stressing that my gpa is too low.

Yes, a fair chance, not a good chance. Your GPA is low, as you said. But all you can do now is rack up some A’s senior year, do a great job on the app, and see what happens. Never hurts to apply. Just have good safeties - cannot emphasize this enough.
