Help me with my schedule, because I'm a mess right now.

We're signing up for classes. This is it.
Here's what I'm thinking next year.

1) French
2) AP Calculus (AB? We don't have specifics, but that's the test we're taking)
3) APUSH (Just a ton of work)
4) AP Physics (All I've heard is that it's fun)
5) AP Literature (Lots of work but easy to pass)
6) AP Chemistry (Pure torture. About 1 in 60 kids get an A?)

So here's the problem. Everyone says I'm going to overload myself and have ZERO social life. Honestly, it's not like I'm a big partier. I have tons of ECs and volunteer work to do, and possibly track during the spring. I teach little kids on Friday night, and tutor in orchestra on Thursdays. I should be home by 4, if that means anything.

I'm very persistent and in my opinion, I think I have great time management.
How are you guys managing such schedules? Should I go for it? Any advice?
Thanks so much.

The chemistry and physics situation is kind of opposite at my school; most people can get A’s and B’s in chemistry while people usually struggle with AP Physics. But anyway, if you want these classes go for it; a lot of the time I have found asking advice from my peers about my schedule usually leads to “you are crazy” comments for various reasons I don’t fully understand.

I took five AP classes this year (junior) and it has been a lot of work; it is rewarding though, and I would not have been able to decide which AP to drop if I had to. So again, if you really want all of these classes, and like these subjects, you shouldn’t have too much trouble making time for them. C:

Thanks for your response. How much work did you think you had to do? Everyone I know talks about how they spent so much time on their essay, and had to stay up to all hours, but it was all because of procrastination.

So basically, just go for it?

I would drop AP Chem and instead try to go to some more parties. Who knows, you might like them

To be honest, not my thing. Homecoming was enough for me, and I had a date.
Wowwwww do I sound like a loner.

Why drop AP Chem, though?

I might drop AP chem for regular or honors, if only because it’ll kill your GPA. And four APs is plenty rigorous.

If AP chem is pure torture, why are you taking it? The only reason you should take non-requisite classes is because you enjoy them. Take advantage of your free education!

I say drop the English or the APUSH. Personally, AP Chem will teach you a lot more about life. Plus you should not be taking classes for grades, but the knowledge gained from it. Honestly, if I had the time, I would have taken AP Chem and AP Bio along side of AP Physics.

I’m assuming you’re a junior?

Well assuming the general consensus at my school is true, and that an IBDP is 11 AP courses worth of homework…and those with IBDP generally manage SOME social contact…

…I’d say you’re perfectly fine. 6 APs are very very very manageable.

I teach on tues and thurs each for 2 hours, do cross country for one hour on tues as well, debating on monday nights, MUN on wed…and I manage a social life - at least on fridays. That added together with an IB diploma with 4 Higher levels. Idk what that means to you…but that is pretty intense by most standards.

…So yes I’d say you’re just fine.

Oh, I must have been misunderstood.
Pure torture = work load. Not the class itself.

I don’t know what you are referring to with essay (lol, being a sciency person I avoided AP english classes this year), but though it is a lot of work it is manageable. I do get to hang out with friends occasionally, though not as much as some people who didn’t take so many. And it may be hard to decide which AP to drop based on others’ advice, as you should realize by now which subjects you enjoy. If you are thinking about being an english major for example, I don’t think you would want to drop AP literature. Though then you may considering dropping AP Chem if you really don’t care much about it.

Depends on how the classes are at your school but I think you have to decide where your strengths lay and pander to those strengths. However, this schedule is doable ( without a lot of extracurricular commitment)

:/
How little extracurricular commitment?
I’m kind of EC-heavy.

If 1 in 60 get an A in AP Chem, don’t take it. And you not taking it won’t look bad AT ALL! Your many APs account for that, and you’ll be fine without it. And plus you have AP Physics, so you’re set!

So … Don’t take AP Chem because it’ll bring down my grade?
And there are plenty of A-s.

^Oh, when you said that 1 in 60 get As I thought you meant the rest get Bs and below. Well, how many get A-s? How hard would it be to get those A-s?

Well, I talked to the teacher (he’s my Chem teacher right now.) He says that math-based people are more likely to do well in his class, as well as in AP Physics. I talked to a lot of AP Chem students, and they seem to procrastinate. However, the thing that brings down their grade is that “the tests are killer.” He does have a ridiculous curve, though, so you can get a 61% on a test and still get a 98% in the gradebook.

From what I’m seeing, it’s hard to do well if you don’t study well each night.
Sorry if that didn’t answer your question. D:
