Hey CC, I'm going to be applying to University of Minnesota & Wisconsin and am sure I will get into both for Finance, later going to work in the Actuarial Science field.
Although these schools are basically guarantees for me, I still want some safeties for a worst-care scenario. Here are my stats. I live in Minnesota by the way.
Senior
3.93 GPA UW, AP's Honors & CIS courses
29 Act
BPA- Business Professionals of America(Marketing Leader for school), Student Government, Stock Market Club
NHS

WLNHS

Volunteer
Library
Going to camp, working for non-profit for week

Tutored Math for 2 years

There's probably some other things but I can't think of them now.
Help me out!

Minnesota should be a shoe in for you, I’m actually going through similar process as you too! I have a 3.75 unweighted and a 29, my top choice right now is UW Madison with Minnesota Twin Cities as one of my safeties. Other safe schools for you could be Indiana University- rolling admissions and no essay. Also Michigan State seems relatively safe as well. Great picks so far though!

Schools to Consider:

Marquette University
University of Minnesota: Morris
Milwaukee School of Engineering

What about two years at your local community college, and then transferring into U of MN or U of WI? Check the websites of the community colleges near you, and read up on any articulation (guaranteed transfer) agreements that they have. Or, visit the counseling center(s) and ask the advisor(s) there about this.

Good luck!

bump? I’m looking for colleges on my level or close to it (i.e. Indiana U)

I’m not sure what you expect people to recommend that you could not find and research yourself. Wisconsin is ranked about 45 in US News. Minnesota is ranked about 64th in US News. Look at all of the schools about 35-75 and you have your list of very similar schools. Pick those you like rather than relying on some random suggestions from CC posters.

bump for some other ideas?

Safeties must be affordable in order for them to be safeties. What’s your budget? Most safeties don’t give much need-based aid.

Get out of Minnisoda and go to school in a real state.

How rude. Furthermore, there is no such state as “Minnisoda.”

The University of Minnesota is a safety for you. You could check with your guidance counselor to confirm this. If you really want a back up safety school in the wings, either UM Morris or UM Duluth would be reasonable. They’re a little less expensive, too, I think.

If you want other options that are somewhat similar to MN and Wisconsin, just so you have more choices available, Indiana, Iowa, and Iowa State might be worth a look.
