Hello, I have posted before but recently I have narrowed down my search for a college. As of now, my dream school is College of Charleston but I am from a public school on Long Island, New York and my stats aren't exactly amazing :/ please tell me if I have a chance applying Early Action to CofC and regularly to the other schools.

GPA: 86 (probly will be about 90 by mid year)
SAT: 1800 (Verbal: 690 Math: 570 Essay: 540)
Advanced Classes: AP Spanish, IB Spanish, IB History II, IB History II, IB Visual Arts I, IB Visual Arts II
Extracurriculars: I have been a prominent student leader in charity events, and have gone on three humanitarian trips to Nicaragua(which I wrote about for my essay)

Schools applying too:

1 choice: College of Charleston (Early Action)

Clemson
SUNY Albany
Arizona State University
NC State

I plan on studying political science and would prefer a southern public school in an urban area, smallish is preferable. Please tell me my chance at getting into CofC this January!

i would not say that c of c or clemson are reaches. i think you have a very good chance at both schools.
make sure you include something in your c of c app about how its your first choice and how much you wanna go there.

Just saw your post--I think you'll be able to get in CofC early action. My daughter had very similar stats (I think your SATs are better), she found out just before Thanksgiving last year that CofC accepted her, and that's where she is and loves it. I think her application went in for Early Action in September. We are out-of-state from PA, near Philly. Good luck!

Kpmom, you're comment makes me feel a lot better! Especially because if you're daughter got in with similar stats I should not have much of a problem because male to female ratio isn't particularly balanced. I think my transcript is being sent today so hopefully I'll get the letter soon. How does your daughter like the dorms? How lively is the city of Charleston? Also how does she rate the professors?

davidkaplan-
My daughter LOVES the dorm layouts--I think it was at least a small part of the reason she chose the school. She is in an all-female dorm that's all suites, so she only shares a bathroom with 3 other girls. She also LOVES the city--another part of the reason she went there! We live near Philadelphia, PA, so she's been to all the major cities in the Northeast (NYC, Boston, DC, etc) and I think Charleston is her favorite over all of them, she wouldn't even consider going to NYC for school even with the great performing arts schools there. She has told me how much she likes the music professors--she's a voice major. Currently she is on a choir trip to 3 states during fall break. So far, I haven't talked to her about most of the rest of her professors, but we'll get to that next week when we visit for Parents Weekend.

kpmom06, I was interested in reading through this thread and seeing that you have a child at CofC. My son has been looking at possible schools on the East coast and CofC is of interest to him. At the present time (he's a sophomore) he is very interested in the art field: studio art/new media (digital), but also wants to experience all that a LAC has to offer. He likes the size of CofC, the location, and the fact it has a men's swimming team, but is interested in learning more about their art dept. Do you or your daughter have any knowledge about its reputation, focus, or other attributes? If so, we would greatly appreciate reading your reply. Thanks!

KandKsmom-
The music dept. is located in the School of the Arts, so my daughter may have some info about the art dept. by now, I will ask when I talk to her. I personally don't know much about it, only what I've seen on the school website, which to me looks impressive (but I really don't know much about art). We will also be down there at the end of Oct. for Parents Weekend, so I'll look around and ask some questions and get back to you.

My daughter is there because she too wanted a LAC instead of a conservatory for the 'full' college experience, and currently plans to do graduate work at a conservatory ('course, we all know how plans change!).
