HELP!! Messed Up on Supplement!!!

Hey, CollegeConfidential people!

I just applied to Yale, but after I submitted my app, I noticed that there was a big mistake on one of the supplemental questions. For the one that asked about how I dealt with failure, I must not have copied the whole thing from my word processor, so the first part of the answer is missing. I didn’t notice since the Common App only displays the last part of the text, and I was so caught up in my excitement. My question is, how should I go about fixing it? I’ve emailed their admissions office about the situation, and I included my answer to the question, but is there a better way to fix the mistake? Or is the situation irreversible since I’ve already sent it in? If so, do you guys think it’ll hurt the app a lot? (I know this is conjecture, but it can’t hurt.) Yale’s a long-shot for me, but it’s always been one of my top schools. Thanks!

I wouldn’t worry much about this–it sounds like you’ve already done everything you should do by e-mailing the admissions office and including the full answer. My understanding is that the Common App can’t be changed for a particular school after you’ve already submitted it, though you can make changes for future schools you apply to. I doubt this will hurt your application at all.

Thanks! I just heard back from their admissions office, and they were really understanding. They told me that they updated my application.

That’s great—glad to hear it!

See, AdComs are real people. I am glad it worked out for you.
