HELP: Miami 7 Year or Drexel 7 Year

My daughter got into the Miami's HPME Program and Drexel's 7 Year Medical Program. Which one should she choose?

Miami HPME

i think the requirements for drexel are a little looser than Miami’s program. (3.5>3.7)

The MCAT is looser in Miami (which is also 7 year).
Miami: MCAT (each score 8 or better): Total : 28

Drexel: MCAT: Required (verbal: 9: bio: 10, phy: 10 = 29) or 31 (with each score 8 or better)

any other opinions?

i’d definitely choose miami. both the undergrad and med school are FAR better than those of drexel. miaimi’s campuses are nicer, and the students are smarter. miami’s med school is cheaper too. miami gives an 8 year option as well, and she can pursue an MBA, MPH, or PhD with the MD if she desired (i don’t remember if you can at drexel).

thanks. any other opinions?

well…one’s in phili and one’s in miami. Maybe you should consider distance from home. I mean we all want the college experience but I think it would be nice to have the option to come home on some special weekends or whatnot…I live in GA so I would go with Miami =]

While admission to Med school isn’t gauranteed for students who attend Drexel, it IS for those who attend Miami

its guaranteed IF you maintain your grades and get the MCAT score needed …

i personally don’t like all the clauses in the Drexel contract.

For all med programs you must meet the requirements of the program to go to the medical school part. No one at any medical program is guaranteed a medical school seat unless they successfully satisfy the requirements.

cricketman, could u elaborate on your dislikes of drexel’s program?
how stringent are those requirements compared to other programs and stuff?

well, i know they just said you have so many more things to do once you’re at drexel to move onto the med school. as in, it’s not just the GPA and MCAT, you actually have to do other things, and those were the things i wanted to avoid in the first place!

i’m sorry that’s so vague, but i don’t have my letter to say exactly what, but that’s just the feeling i got when i read the contract in the letter.

um, i go to drexel right now, and the only things that you really have to meet are the gpa and mcat requirements (along with taking the necessary required courses like a year of bio, a years worth of math, a year of chem, etc. which are necessary for admission to most med schools anyways) the other things on the letter just list out some things that we aren’t allowed to do like withdraw from classes or get a a grade below a c.

yeah that’s what i was thinking lol

My daughter is going to Drexel 7 year BS/MD program.
