Help! My friend is deciding between two public schools.

UF (in state) and University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Is UW-M worth the extra 100k considering that UF is also a good school and is... free?

He plans to go to medical school or study business. Would UW-M open a lot of doors that UF would not? Is there anywhere I can find job prospects from both schools?

Thank you very much in advance.

UF for free??? Definitely! If he's planning to go to med school, he should be saving his money.

Go to UF. .....................

Yeah, if he does decide to go to medical school, UF seems like a clear choice; how about business?

Even so. UW is not 100k better than UF.

UW is better.

Not a house better though.

Being able to get through undergrad, no matter where it is, debt free, is a huge deal if he ends up going to medical school. Considering if he goes to a state school for medical school, he'll still be over $100k in debt or if he goes to a private school, he'll be over $200k, staying debt free now is a huge breather later on.

In terms of actual impact on getting into medical school, there's no difference. Either place is fine and should present him with the opportunities necessary to build a good application.

UF no contest.

If you ask Barrons, he might disagree and advise UW-M.

But if you are looking into med school, if UF is full ride, then take it.

A 100k for UW-M then 120k for Med school is a lot of money to payback.

thats funny cause barrons said...UF lol

Sorry Mike, I'm an honest guy. I like UW but not for $100k more and UF is no slouch school.

Definitely UF... It's a great school and it's free. UW might be a little bit better, but it's definitely not worth 100K more. Plus, who would pick Wisconsin's climate over Florida's?

Yeah, they are actually pretty close academically, no question.

UF. definately

what if he doesn't want to go to medical school? strictly business. would wisconsin help in recruiting?

Yes, but not $100k worth. Most recruiting at UW is Midwest (Chicago.Minny esp.) and some NY and Cali. UF is probably more southeast only.

I know plenty of UF business graduates who got lucrative jobs in New York. So you aren't necessarily limited to the region of where your school is located.
