HELP - My PE teacher sent my CFA in late

The first time I could schedule my CFA for a Vice Presidential appointment to USNA at school was Monday, 1/30 for the 1/31 deadline. My PE teacher told me that he had sent it in this AM, 2/1. When I spoke to the USNA liaison officer, he said the CFA was too late to be considered.

I completed my obligations in time, but was let down by school personnel. I have nominations to another academy, but the USNA is by far my first choice academy. Is there any recourse or someone I can petition to reconsider here?

Oh, dude. A serious beat-down is in order here....

This same thing happened to my son a few years ago. He did not get in to USNA. You should complain to your principal.

And then fry your PE teacher in garlic.

Incompetent boob should be fired!

So let me see if I get this right........

Your PE teacher had one day to Conduct & Monitor your CFA test and get the results into the Naval Academy the next day?????? Did he have to reserve the gym, get the testing materials out. (i.e. basketball, shuttle run blocks, stopwatch etc.) Set aside extra time for this test to take place?

When did you realize that the deadine was Jan 31st? (On January 29th?) I believe all deadlines are clearly stated.

It seems to me that "attention to detail" was not followed.

As for firing a teacher...............Im sure that teacher has more responsiblities than to worry about 1 students deadline to an Academy. (unless that teacher is your parent) Possibly, if you were to give that teacher more time, this conversation would not be happening.

"Your lack of planning does not constitute an emergency on your teachers part."

Marine is right. Tough lesson to learn, but worth learning now rather than later.

Oddly enough, I was thinking the same thing later.

I guess I just remember my teachers falling over themselves to help me out....

All of the prior posts are correct in some way. I suggested a number of earlier dates. My PE teacher's calendar did not permit them and my commitments, some of them less important now, kept me from being able to make the CFA on those dates. But still they were commitments I'd made. Lesson learned.

My question remains unanswered, though. IS there anyone on this board with current knowledge of a recourse or appeal?

Unfortunately, I do not believe Admissions will do anything to help you. You probably should have sacrificed one of your committments to take it at a earlier date or you should have found someone other than that PE coach to test you. USNA Admissions gives you from about mid-July to January to take the CFA, that is plenty of time even if you did not get your packet in July.

The problem I see is that if you could not find time in a matter months, then how will you adapt to getting things done when there is not a lot of time and there are multiple committments? I am sure that is how USNA Admissions looks at it too! Thus, I don't think Admissions will exempt you.

As you stated, you learned a valuable lesson.

wow I didnt even know the cfa deadline was this early. I thought it was the same as the deadline to have your application complete. Although I already took the test, I would have liked to retake it...

Hopefully they wont be to strict about the deadline. My school was late in sending in all of the stuff I told them to send and I still was accepted to a number of civilian colleges. However, I can't say this will be the same for usna. Good luck plebehopeful.

One of the things i read on another board is they have deadlines for a reason and the military or government doesnt like deviating from them.I dont know the workings of the naval academy but im sure they will strictly adhere to their guidelines.

Life is hard and alot of times you will not get what you want.

I know thats harsh, but i was just told that exact line no more than 48 hours ago.

Look ahead. You have the ability to apply again next year, learn from what you did, mature a bit (not saying you are immature, but 1 year can mature anyone...it did for me), and attack the academy again after a good rest (okay, bad word choice).

Best of luck dude(t).

The application deadline is an effective method of weeding out those who can't meet deadlines. Why would they want an officer who can't either give leeway time or personally oversee that the form is sent out?

The deadline is probably the same as the application....I was referring to the deadline for the nomination (which, I guess, they need a CFA score).

plebehopeful,

It might not necessarily be too late. Write a letter to the academy stating that you took the test on 1/30 and asked your teacher to mail it out by the 1/31 deadline. Also, have your PE teacher write a letter of regret for mailing the CFA late.

plebehopeful:
Your PE teacher is not the only person who is eligible to perform the CFA. Your BGO is eligible, a coach, or a Reserve station could have helped out.
Seems as if you have learned a life lesson. Your PE teacher was "volunteering" their time to assist YOU! It is NOT a requirement of their teaching contract to conduct your CFA. As a candidate, the responsibility of paperwork and following through with that paperwork is your responsibility, and your's alone. You've had plenty of time to schedule this, why did you wait until the last minute.
I find that the time frame that you allowed yourself was inadequate, and you are now attempting to blame someone else for your procrastination.
PS: As a BGO I am NOT be impressed by this conversation. Calling the Principal is unnecessary and in poor taste. A little advice - suck it up and take responsibility for your actions...

I don't know what that acronym means.

I beleive it means Blue and Gold Officer. Seeing as you are from Colorado, its the same as the ALO for the Air Force Academy.

I'd talk to the BGO..with the new system (computer) there might be a chance you'll be okay. He/She is on your side..contact them

Helloooo---Cadetmom (aka-- a "BGO" as in "Blue and Gold Officer") --just answered you guys...get with the program and heed the advice....

Yep. You got me, too. Didn't realize there was so much time and options available.

Sorry, hopeful. You blew it.
