help narrowing college list...

Vassar College
Wesleyan University
Oberlin College
Sarah Lawrence College
Skidmore College
Bard College
Connecticut College
Hampshire College
University of Georgia (in-state safety)

...so Mom is saying that nine colleges is just to many to apply to, mainly because of the application fees. How should I go about narrowing down this list?

I want to go to a LAC with a strong art department since I will be majoring/focusing in studio arts, so can anyone strike any of these schools off the list from just that standpoint?

I'm in my second year of college now, and feel it is EXTREMELY important that I get into a school that can really help me in my artistic pursuits, but also that truly 'fits' me... thus wanting to give myself plenty of chances to get into such a school... nine doesn't seem like that terribly many.

Obviously, finance is an issue, so could anyone strike off any of these schools for not being at all generous with financial aid?

Any advice welcome... thanks!

Bard has a great department but is very expensive

I visited Sarah Lawrence, which has great facilities, but if you're at all familiar with their academic policy of "thirds"-- apparently you CANNOT be an art third. It's all pretty misleading. I talked to a girl there who was transferring to an art school because SL's dept didn't work out.

ya i've heard sarah lawrence is completely over rated, and the town it's in is LAME TO THE MAX. my grandma lives in scarsdale which is very close to where sarah lawrence is. With the work you're going to be doing at SL, you're not going to be running into the city on a whim all the time. On the other hand, i visited skidmore, and if you're looking for a LAC with a killer art department, skidmore is an excellent choice. my mom went there and loved it, and if i get in, there's a goood chance i'll go there too!
