Help! Need advice or basic info on transferring!

Ok I completed year 1 of CC. I have 28 credits done with a 3.8 GPA, and I am a part of Phi Theta Kappa. I had a horrible high school career also. I have no idea how to handle the transfer process, I have been too busy focusing on coursework and my job. I have been accepted into the University of South Carolina, and I would be eligible for the life scholarship which is worth $4,000, not to mention it is in-state. Other than applying for USC, I haven't done much. Do any of you transfer students have advice on how to carry on, looking at schools, looking at transfer scholarships? Should I wait one more year, and get more work done? I feel as if I go to USC, I will be selling short (not to discredit them, I just have preferences out-of-state). I do, however, like the draw of going into a 4 year uni as a sophomore. I feel like I will be missing out on making friends if I don't go in this early, and making connections in clubs and things. Anybody, have any experience transferring with as little credits as I have? Thanks in advance guys.

Also if y’all don’t mind sharing what schools you transferred into and how easy (than normal) it is to get into. Especially with my stats so far.

OOS would be much more expensive for you. Do you have the finances to afford that? If not, why not just enroll at South Carolina for this year? You are accepted, and if you are gonna end up there anyway, why not go sooner than later?

We looked at South Carolina for my son. He didn’t go there, but I really liked it.

Hey! Thanks for the reply, I don’t have the finances whatsoever for oos tbh. I was just thinking if I stayed one more year and maintained a high gpa that I might get better scholarships or something. I think I will go to USC though, I just want to leave CC so bad! haha. Anyhow if you don’t mind sharing some info about what you and your son learned about USC and what you all liked about it.

What has your transfer counselor told you about where the PTK people end up with good scholarships? Find out about that.

@Happymomof1 You’re right! They have been mentioning collegefish to me which is networking for phi theta kappa students regarding scholarships and stuff. I’ll have to check that out. I’m just scared that some schools will be put off by the lack of credits that I have.

If your CC is on the semester system, 28 credits is just short of a full year (30 credits), so it’s not like your credit count is all that low. Heck, you can probably pick up at least 2 credits somehow this summer if you really feel the need to.

Don’t worry about that 28 credit thing. If you stay at your CC the classes you are currently in will be taken into consideration when you apply for transfer.
