Help.. Need College Suggestions

This is a great website. Very informative and very helpful. I am a community college student in Delaware. I currently have a 3.88 (only one B in my first semester) and i am taking 12 credits with an expected GPA of 4.0 and have completed 35 credits . In high school i had around a 3.2 and 1050 on my sat's. I know i didn't do well but i didn't have any ambitions for college. After 1 bad smester at VA Wesleyan and 1 year off of school iwent back to school. I work around 35-40 hours per week. volunteer lacrosse coach for the high school, volunteer fire fighter, phi theta kappa. i play lacrosse in college and played in hs. I was wondering what are some realistic college choices? i've been looking at American, Loyola College in MD, University of MD, Faifield U. intended major is Economics minor in Finance. My college counselors are of no help at all. I am dreaming of NYU or Princeton but need some realistic colleges..

well what was your gpa at your first college? that is going to matter just as much as your performance at deleware

12 credits is not going to be especially competitive....your ec's do not show any kind of intellectual engagement

throw princeton and nyu far out of your mind...the colleges you mentioned before those seem to be good fits...are you looking exclusively in the baltimore/dc area?

no I am not looking exclusively in baltimore/dc area, i was, however, looking to stay on the east coast(unless U Chicago is an option). The colleges mentioned just seemed to be competitive colleges that i could be accepted into around the mid-atlantic, new england area (where i would like to study). In high school i didn't really care about college. Now i've changed my whole attitude and want to get into the best/ most selective college possible

again, i think the selective colleges you are reffering to, namely princeton, nyu, u chicago are far out of reach for you...your college gpa is decent for a cc, but the rest of your application is extremely weak and will, i think, preclude you from being a competitive applicant to schools of that level...what kind of grades did you get at your first school?

if you have both princeton and fairfield on schools you are going to potentially apply to you need to really focus in on what schools are realistic for you...many of the schools you mentioned (fairfield, loyola, american) may be match schools for you...you need to get passed defining yourself by the prestige of the college you attend, you can get a high quality education at many universities

if your looking to major in business, babson may be a very interesting school for you to look into

not sure that you have the stats for Babson either...you're not going to get into Princeton...for one they don't accept transfers, and two, its just not gonna happen...the best school out of those that you listed is UMD-College Park...yet, if you want to be a finance major, you'll have to keep up a fairly competitive GPA of at least 3.5 when you get here...that really shouldn't be hard though, business class are a joke...so yeah, I think UMD is your best bet...oh and NYU, not happening either...also, if you're dreaming about being a banker, stay realistic and have a back up plan...you'll have to be top .005% at maryland to get a good banking job, but it is possible...if that doesn't work out, you still have a shot if you go into the work force doing something finance related and go get your MBA...just keep in mind that you can't merely dream things and expect them to happen....there's too many other ppl with dreams that are already acting on them

When i threw names like Princeton in there, i was merely using them as an example for selective colleges (doesn't everyone dream of ivy), i didn't necessarily mean i wanted to apply there. My reason for posting is that i can go to any college website and see what the median high school gpa and sat's are, i was looking to find what the most selective schools were that i can be competitive in the application process with my grades in cc. BTW i went to vwc in 2005 for a semester, 2d's 2 c's. took a year off and worked, then decided to take college seriously. im looking to get into securities trading, perhaps law school (thats why i think econ is fitting)

you can't leave stuff like that out...those 2 c's and 2 d's will matter a lot

forget about princeton and nyu, i think the american's and umd's of the world will be tough for you to get into as well...you should not place so much weight into the "prestige" of the college you go to, a lot more to life than that

Princeton doesn't accept transfers at all, I believe.
