Help needed in decision

My daughter got admitted
UC Santa Barbara - computer engineering
UC Davis - computer engineering
UC Santa cruz - computer engineering
UC San Diego = applied maths and scientifc computing
Cal Poly, SLO - computer engineering
Rose Hulman = computer engineering
Milwaukee school of engineering = computer engineering.

We were considering Cal Poly and Rose Hulman for acceptance. But some friends have suggesteedd UC San Diego and UC Davis are good for computer engineering as well.

Any inputs regarding these colleges that would help us in the decision?
We cannot visit all the campuses because my daughter is in India.
If we visit the website all of them seem to be nice and we really are not able to make up.

Thank you

Wait for help here from somebody than knows the different campuses, and If you live in California, try to visit the most recommended campuses without your daughter and give her your opinion.

I agree with what you’ve learned. RHIT, Cal Poly, UCSD and UCD seem to be the schools your daughter should most strongly consider for her academic interests.

If your daughter is coming from India, how much in general does she want to get out of her total college experience? For example I’m thinking of Davis - good school but basically an agricultural inland town kind of far from lots of things, vs Cal Poly SLO in a gorgeous town having great proximity to a really beautiful part of the California coastline, vs San Diego being a big city (also gorgeous beaches and history etc).

She was admitted to computer engineering everywhere except UCSD. The Mathematics-Scientific Computation major would be very different from computer engineering. https://www.math.ucsd.edu/~handbook/undergraduate/wp-content/uploads/18-19-MA34.png

All choices are good (although Milwaukee School of Engineering a bit less so).
So it’ll come down to fit.
What environment does she like? Personally I like Davis as a college town, easy to bike everywhere, and Cal Poly SLO for gorgeous beaches nearby.
Rose Hulman is quite isolated and check the support women receive (due to the unbalanced gender ratio).

If she is deadset on CS, I would advise against UCSD. Transferring into the CSE program at UCSD is lottery based, so if she has guaranteed spot in CS programs at other schools, consider those more.

Based on input on this thread, your daughter’s choice probably should be made from among RHIT, Cal Poly and UCD.

I’d suggest one of the CA schools over RHIT. My D who attended a summer program at RHIT found it to be too conservative for her taste, and the gender balance was an issue.

My daughter is not particular on the environment(beaches, city)although gender ratio at RHIT is a concern we should check out for.
She is more concerned about getting good education. That would in turn give her more confidence in pursuing higher education or more confident when in a working environment.

Did you decide on RHIT…

Yes most likely we will go with Cal Poly

One of your previous posts indicates that you are in California, but your child is in India. I am assuming that you are planning to pay OOS fees until she can establish residence.

FWIW: The state requires physical presence for both you and your daughter for residence instate fees. Since she’s in India, her physical presence will begin whenever she’s in the state and then she has to prove she’s in California for 366 days.

Thank you for the information.
