also abt the topics of the essays......plz help me if anyone can......

@Runiah: EVERY college needs an essay. The CommonApp requires one, and then some schools have supplement essays. If the school is not on CommonApp, then you need to figure out how that specific schools does things. You should REALLY REALLY talk to your counselor about this :/

Good luck!

thnx a lot…

as for topics of the essays: write about something that matters to you and reveals a little about you

^ I don’t know about choosing an essay topic that “reveals little about you”. I would choose a topic that is most definitely meaningful to write that at the same time encompasses proving who you are as a person and why you would be a good candidate for admissions. I think the essay is an opportunity to display aspects of yourself that your transcript, test scores, rank, and GPA can’t show. Just my two cents.

oh thats gr8…then theres no specific topic huh???

Depends on the college, certain college apps have specific topics they want you to write about. There is usually one essay required, and one optional, once again depending on the college. If you apply via common app, there is a supplemental, and sometimes a little writing involved.

Hi Runiah,
Yes the Common App asks for one essay. That one can be an essay on a topic of you choice. It needs to be at least 250 words. There is another small written section on the Common App where you explain a bit about one of your extra curricular activities. These are the written requirements for the Common App, which many of the schools use.

You also need to look on the web site of each school that you are applying to. Many of the top schools will give you an essay topic to write about but it may be different for each school. If you are feeling worried about your writing abilities, maybe you can have a teacher proof read your essays before you send them. Good luck!
