Okay guys, here goes...

I had a rough start in the beginning of my community college years. Long story short, I had a couple F's a D and I was ultimately Dismissed. I went to another CC and just couldn't get it together same thing happened. Went to another CC and finally turned myself around now with a 3.78 GPA and 47 credits. I still have 15 credits that will be taken in the coming semesters.

I plan on applying for transfer this fall for admission Fall 2015. I did Academic Renewal at my second CC and it was approved(thank GOD), going to try for academic renewal at my first CC(fingers Crossed).

My question is this, since I am still dismissed from my first CC and if I apply for reinstatement and Academic renewal, will this be enough to have a valid TAG? Because it says that I need to be in good academic standing from all colleges (even though this was 8 years ago). Also will academic renewal automatically up my GPA and count the ones that I did do well in? Will I have to go back to those colleges to take classes?

Sorry I've been stalking these forums for answers and I've been stressing out.

Thank you so much for your help.

@shuttlepilotND I think you should talk to your counselor or who ever is in charge of TAG at your CC. I think you’ll be fine though as long as you get academic renewal. Good luck.

@ShuttlepilotND - Contact your original college and see if you are considered “in not good standing”. If you are then provide them with an recent transcript they should be able to update you record and you’ll most likely be good to go.

The TAG says ALL so yeah the first one matters and just do what I said above, it may take a few weeks but it should go through.

What I’ve discovered having been in a similar situation before is that CC admin and counselors genuinely want you to succeed. Call them and explain your situation. I have noticed that if you can prove you’ve turned it around, all CC’s have some discretion and will move mountains for you to move to the next level.

These types of rules are not meant to be punitive, they’re established to set standards so students do not take advantage of the system. But they always encourage students to reach out and discuss your personal situation. They will work with you. Schools have given me AR in some cases where the “rules” said they could not.

Call them, charm them, show them what you’ve done and what you plan to do.

I had quite the similar experience except it was at a university. I was at SDSU for an entire year and was academically disqualified for my GPA. I then went to a CC that I absolutely hated and withdrew from my courses thankfully, then went to a new CC and graduated with a combined 3.2 between retakes and Ws. This semester I applied for a 4 year and had to answer the good standing question, I called up the past colleges and I was told after a year of non-attendance I was considered in good standards and the CC said that since I have Ws and one passing grade I was fine. So just make sure you don’t owe fees anywhere and you should be fine. After all that drama I made for myself I still got accepted to a couple good schools and just really showed self improvement each semester and my grades got better and better. I’m sure you’ll be fine

If you show them your grades, they will change your standing if it’s still an issue, especially considering how long it’s been. They want you to do well.

And yes, AR takes the grades out of your gpa, so you will be good to go.

Hey Guys! Sorry for the late reply I’ve been working since I got out from finals, but I wanted to thank you all for your kind words and for helping me out, I took your advice and I was granted AR from all schools and will talk with a counselor next week about the good standing. Really, thank you and good luck in your endeavors!

@ShuttlepilotND Congrats on renewals! I was in a very similar situation as you. Follow through with the phone calls to your cc’s. Also, call the UC you plan to TAG to. I had been on academic probation (was previously disqualified then put on probation after a year of not taking classes) with one cc that granted me AR but would not take me off probation unless I took classes there again. I spoke with the UC rep and they said I was good to go as long as I didn’t owe the school any money. He said you have to be in good academic and financial standing with your most recent school, but “good standing” with any previous schools means they will still allow you to enroll as a student (your academic disqualification has been lifted and you have no financial holds). Good luck!
