Help order my Activities List

Hey everyone, I'll soon start submitting my Common App to colleges. First, I want to make sure that I've correctly ordered my top 10 of my 14 activities--and left the correct four off. Here is the order in which they currently appear:

1) Photographer, Assistant to Second-Grade YSI Class
Young Scholars Institute is an enrichment opportunity for local elementary schoolers. My jobs included teaching history and kayaking with pupils.
(Community service, grades 10, 12, two weeks per year during break and 35 hours/week for a total of 140 hours.)

2) President of Sr. Beta club
An active leader throughout our chapter's first year, I organized service projects and shaped the club for success in the hands of future leaders.
(Grade 12, I listed this as taking up 4 hours a week for 30 weeks, which has held true so far.)

3) Founder and Three-time President of Chess Club
Recognizing the demand for a chess club at our school, I founded one during Freshman year and taught lessons at weekly meets.
(Grades 9, 10, 12. Two hours a week for 27 weeks per year.)

4) President of Spanish club
As president of the thirty-strong group, I spearheaded projects including a Dios de los Muertos dance. Leftover club funds were donated to charities.
(Member during grade 11, president grade 12. The Dios de los Muertos dance is still in the works; our whole club has been fundraising for it and the Spanish classes are making decorations.)

5) TN Governor's School for the Humanities Attendee
Finishing top of my philosophy class, I banked college credit and an enriched mind as one of four rising Juniors at TN's oldest Governor's School.
(Grade 11, four weeks out of the year; I estimated that class and other structured activities accounted for around 30 hours a week.)

6) Co-captain of Quiz Bowl team
A pillar of our team's first two years, I brought literary and science knowledge that helped my team place third in a televised regional competition.
(Grades 11, 12. Three hours per week and 27 weeks per year.)

7) Treasurer of National Honors Society
NHS officers shared responsibility in leading meetings, coordinating community projects, and inducting new scholars.
(Grades 11, 12. One hour a week for 25 weeks each year.)

8) Treasurer of Student Council
Elected treasurer to our class of four hundred, I helped orchestrate our Christmas dance by fashioning decorations and leading fundraising efforts.
(Grade 11, two hours a week for 33 weeks.)

9) Co-Anchor of Radio Talk Show
When Town Talk's thousands of elderly listeners asked for a younger host, I applied to answer their on-air questions and became an instant hit.
(Grade 10, this lasted 4 weeks and required 10 hours per week of dedication. This was unpaid volunteer work.)

10) TN Boys State Attendee and City Official
At the nation's #1 rated Boys State program, I built disciplinary and political skills and expanded my governmental knowledge.
(Grade 12, they had us busy every waking hour so it was like 80 hours in 1 week.)

All of those things I listed in my Activities section. My "Additional Information" section includes an essay on my work with special needs children and the following additional activities:

• Vice President of Mu Alpha Theta (Grade 11, member grades 10-12).
• Treasurer of Model UN club (Grade 12). To raise money for convention, I volunteered my lunch hour to work register at a student-run food store throughout the month of October.
• Key Club International member (Grades 11, 12). I met the requirement of fifty club-specific service hours each year by participating in school cleanup projects and Operation Christmas Child.
• PR Chairman of Excel service club (Grades 11, 12). I made morning announcements to galvanize school-wide support for service projects.

Do you guys think I ordered my activities wisely? Should I bump Governor's School up and Beta president down? Or maybe Model UN Treasurer is a bigger deal than Boys State? Thanks in advance!

The order is fine. There is no ‘right’ order. You are supposed to order them based upon how important the activities are to YOU, not to the schools where you are applying. You’ll see when you get your common app account opened that character counts are strict and you won’t have room to be this descriptive. Never fear, neither does anyone else applying this year.

Thanks niceday, it’s just hard to figure out which order I’d like them in personally. For example, Governor’s School was definitely my favorite activity, but it conveys neither leadership nor service.

Also, the descriptions of everything I posted here were simply copied and pasted from the Common App form that has already been filled out, so I know it fits. The information in parentheses would have pushed me over the description limit, but all of that went in separate forms and checkboxes. So it’s all good!
