Hey guys, this is my first time posting on this forums - I've been scanning through the forums as a whole whether it's through people's "Chance Me!" threads, etc. Anyways, I've been keen on the Architecture Program for Cornell and am wondering if you guys can help me!

Our high school is extremely competitive (Both of my friends went to Yale) and only calculates their unweighted GPA by A's (No A- or A), B's, and so on. As of now, I'm not sure how to calculate the weighted GPA, so please bear with me.

Current Grades:
English 2H (noted as the toughest English course in South Jersey): B
Chemistry H: A
History I AP: A
Spanish 3H: A
Functions (Algebra 2H): A

Future Classes to take:
English AP
Chemistry AP
History II AP
Spanish AP
Pre-Calc. H
Calc. AP
Phys. H
Phys. AP
Bio. H

(With hard work, I am very certain to get all A's in the above classes except for English)

Here are the EC's I am taking and will take:
3 Years of "Habitat for Humanity"
3 Years of East Side (Currently trying to get the position for Photography-Editor)
2 Years of going to Central American countries with Church and building churches
2 Years of Cum Laude
3 Years of Chemistry Club
2 Summers for Assisting in Temple University (Filing papers, small work, etc.)

I know I haven't added in any SAT or AP scores, but that's because I haven't taken them yet. Yet academically and EC wise, I was wondering if the following looks good for me to get into Cornell, and if not, what I can do to improve. I know my EC's are pretty bad in shape, but I can hopefully fix that later on the school year and summer. Thanks!

You look on track to be a solid candidate. The number of EC’s you have is certainly enough, my only concern is I’m not sure if you have any outside school activity for which you express passion and spend significant time on. For the AAP program you definitely need to be taking art/graphic classes as well since the portfolio requirement looks decently extensive (but for someone who avoided art like me, any requirement would seem daunting).

The portfolio for AAP is definitely something you want to focus on. Work on showing off technical ability, creativity, expressiveness, as well as using a variety of media in your work. Your grades and EC’s are probably enough, although you might want to consider trying to find more activities more oriented to whatever major you want to study. Let’s see… what else…Looking at your grades, you should have no problem getting 2150+ on SATs, but maybe shoot for 2200+? But yeah, start your portfolio early so that you have time to make it perfect.

Thank you very much, guys! And I’m REALLY worried about the Portfolio - Should I start now? How long do these usually take to make? Also, if I were to take outside Art/Graphics classes (Such as learning to draw, etc.), would this go on my Resume?

It really depends on what kind of things you are planning on putting into the portfolio. Starting early (now) is always good, and it definitely helps to take an art class for critiquing and stuff, although I started mine in the middle of the summer and finished by the ED due date.

Unless you’ve won awards, art classes probably won’t help much on your resume.

I see. I’m thinking of taking Advanced Drafting which uses the program, ACAD. Would this help me throughout my freshman year in architecture while I am in college?

Also, are you inferring that you are in Cornell right now? If so, what were your SAT Scores, GPA (Unweighted), and EC’s?
