Hi everyone!
I’m currently a transfer student at my local community college, and I got into SFSU and CSULB for this upcoming Fall semester. I’m studying International Relations, and after I get my bachelors I hope to go to graduate school. Going to CSULB would be very convenient for me as I’m local to that area, but there’s also the spark of excitement about moving to San Francisco. CSULB has a better academic reputation than SFSU does (from what I’ve heard), but part of me wants to go to SFSU just to experience a new ambiance. That’s not the best factor to determine where I’d like to go to, as the priority here is the quality of education, which is why I’m on here seeking different opinions. It’s also important to note that I could go to CSULB debt free, but at SFSU I’d be around 4k in debt. I’m already pretty familiar with the social aspect at CSULB, but I’m very unfamiliar with SFSU, so if anyone has any information about that, anything is appreciated! Thanks in advance for taking time to help my indecisive self
Hello i can’t help you make your decision however we have the same major and we want the same schools . I messed up my chances of transferring this year due to a class. However good job getting accepted into both schools. Best of luck
if you are going to go in debt living in SF i dont thin its worth it based on that. you say 4 grand now buy everything in SF is very expensive, going out is expensive you wont have much of a budget. I dont know if you looked into housing or how much rent is in SF and its ridiculous. Ive been in the bay for a long time and its not like how it used to be, silicon valley took over and the cozy bay area feeling is gone for me, and now its just a stressful environment to live in. I know a few people that went to SFSU and it dsoent seem like it has a big social life, most my friends never hung around campus. it seems like a pretty C list school in my opinion academically it will probably be a cake walk, but they also make you take weird liberal multicultural coursed. My friend took a class on Lesbian African American poets. Real talk its not a school or environment worth going in debt for because you can calculate its at 4 k now but you are going to spend a lot of money living in SF. I think it would be worth it if you were going to a better school in the bay like UCB, but sfsu not worth it. Especially if your main thing about sfsu is to get a new ambiance, just come visit SF. Trying to move to SF is a big struggle if you can’t economically support yourself. You might end with with no place to live or crashing on couches. I have a friend that is currently about to graduate from SFSU this spring, and he has moved several times. He probably only lived in the actual city SF for 3 months. That’s another thing you might go to SFSU but you could end up living in a surrounding city and have an awful commute. I also have friends that went to law school at golden gate university and they ended up on heroin. Bottom line its a big commitment and not something you should just decide on the fly because you want to change up the scene.
