hello,

Well, my dream school right now is Duke University - and I have a small question. I was supposed to have an interview with one of the alumni - he called me Feb. 14th in the morning, and he said he would call me again later to have a phone interview. I waited by the phone expecting his call, but he never did. I couldn't call him back because his number didn't register. So my question: Since I didn't get an interview, do you think my chances are severely hurt?

I didn't even get the chance to have an interview, so I think your chances are probably better than mine lol. Anyways, since you can't call him back, I suggest you send an email to Duke admissions explaining what happened...you should have done this around the week he called though, so that they maybe could of given you another interviewer. I'm pretty sure it's a bit late now since decisions are going to up on the 26th...which probably means they're close enough to finishing that they know when they'll release decisions. You can either send them a concise and sincere explanation or just stay put and hope for the best. Apparently, interviews aren't too big of a deal since they're rather informal. Either way, good luck!

I don't think your chances are hurt at all...

Many are not contacted for interviews, and it must show that the alumni volunteer did not call you for a phone interview. For Yale, 50-60 percent of applicants are not even contacted for an interview.

Don't worry at all. I've had several interviews for different colleges and all the interviewers have told me the same thing - the alumni interview has very little actual importance in the admissions decision. It's mainly a just chance for you to learn more about the college from someone who has experienced it firsthand.
