I am a junior in high school from New York and I am really interested in this college and I wanted to know a few things...

What is the criteria like for admissions?

Do you need a lot of volunteer hours?

Is a 3.7 GPA unweighted, good enough?

What is campus like?

Where is the closest beach?

Is it a diverse community?

How is the swim program?

Is it big on school spirit?

What is something that makes the school unique?

[UD Admissions: Experience Knowledge, Exerience UD](<a href=“Undergraduate Admissions | University of Delaware”>Out-of-State Students | University of Delaware)

You don’t need volunteer hours per se,but extra-curricular activities of any kind will certainly help your application.

Probably, but it depends on what the rest of your application is like.

Very attractive and well-kept; many Georgian brick buildings; a vibrant Main St. with typical small-town college feel: [University of Delaware Virtual Tour](http://video.realviewtv.com/education/udel/)

South and east along the Delaware coast there are a lot of beaches, but you need a car to get to them.

Not particularly.

No idea.

Very good - UD students seem very upbeat and happy about their school.

UD had the first study-abroad program in the world, started in 1923.

Thanks this was really helpful

Bella,

I think your question #9 is one of the most important ones in terms of making a decision. My daughter is a freshmen at UD and what seems to be unique to me about the school is that UD scores so highly across so many criteria. So many schools seem to have really strong points, but then some big thing that might offset the strength, for example, cost, location, size, atmosphere, etc. I actually find it very difficult to find anything really negative about the place. On most criteria, the place seems to range from above average to excellent. Also, (my daughters recent disastrous experience with sorority rush notwithstanding,) the students seem to be very content and even thrilled with their experience at UD. You did not share your standardized test scores, but if you can get into the honors program, I think the experience is further enhanced with special housing, advising, and honors classes.

Is your daughter in the Honors Program now? What dorm did she get for her freshman year?

Yes PortMom, she is a freshman in the honors program. She is in Russell, which I believe is mostly honors students.
