so, ya know how the minimum requirements for admission on like all of the BU admissions documents says "3 years math (through precalculus)?

i took three years but instead of precalc i took honors finite/statistics. is there any way i can still get into the school? other than this issue, my stats are most likely good enough to get me into bu. i’m applying to COM too, if that matters.

did any of you guys not take precalc and apply anyways?

DS is a music student at BU. He did NOT take precalculus. He took four years of math, but his senior year was statistics and economics. His GC wrote a letter for him stating that these courses were more important to him as a potential self employed musician than precalculus.

I think you should be fine. Many people at my school start with Algebra I freshman year, so 3 years of math for them is only through Algebra II.

My d had a similar situation. She is applying to the theater program. She is taking PreCalc but wanted to drop AP Chem at the beginning of the year. We called BU and asked them about the 3 years of lab science requirement and they told us that Earth Science taken her freshman year would not count towards the requirement. Therefore she had honors Chem, honors bio, but still needed a third year so is currently suffering through AP Chem. The rep at BU told us that the requirements are just that..."requirements" and while she couldn't guarantee anything, in order to be competative candidates for admission, you MUST meet the required HS courses...even for a theater major. Sorry, this probably isn't what you want to hear, but I would have your guidance counselor call BU on Monday and put a good word in for you. Good luck!!
