Hi, these are the colleges I am currently considering,
Carleton, Bowdoin, Colby, Bates, Dickinson, Grinnell, Oberlin, Macalester, Washington and Lee, Kenyon, Claremont Mckeena, University of the South.

Can someone tell me more about these colleges as it's difficult for me to visit the colleges due to logistical and financial reasons. I have heard negative things about the student body at Colby, such as the students there do not connect to the world and so on... Do tell me more about Dickinson also... the ranking does not tell much about the school... So that I can narrow down my college choices.

I want to go to a school that has a close knit community, close relationships with professors, great school spirit, a small town, nice weather - a place not too cold (I am from a tropical country), dislike students (guys) that have long hair and who do not take care of their hygiene. Your comments and advice are much appreciated. Any other school suggestions are most welcome. Thank you.

bump... ten characters

If you can define "not too cold", I think I can halve your list for you. Carleton, Macalester, Colby, Bowdoin, and Bates are all in places where it snows a lot and can be quite cold.

As for your concerns about Colby: I've never got a "does not connect with the outside world" sense from Colby, either from my visit or from a family friend who used to teach there. The only negative things I heard concerned alcohol (which you'll find most places) and the academic involvement of the students (this was all from the ex-professor). I personally did get that sense from Bates, but people here have told me that my experience was uncommon.

I'll be a junior at Kenyon, and I looked at a few schools that you did.

Kenyon fits most of your ideal characteristics...

It's tough to just "tell you more" about a school, but visit the "have any questions?" on the Kenyon page for answers to a lot of questions about it, or feel free to PM me...

Oberlin is very liberal and has a good amount of long-hair/poor-hygiene guys, cold, snowy winters, but otherwise fits your requirements.

Dickinson is more conservative than other schools on your list. It is a larger LAC, and in a slightly larger town than other schools on your list. I really like other schools on your list, but Dickinson leaves a sour taste in my mouth. The campus has nice buildings, but it's cut up with all sort busy roadways, the tourguide I had there was by far the least intelligent of all the ones I had...

Macalester is an excellent small LAC, but it is in St. Paul, which is far from a small town.

These, of course, are either my opinions or basic knowledge... make sure you do your own research as well. Try going to the college's boards and finding a student that can answer your questions better and more accurately than the general CC public.

Based on your criteria, I would make Washington and Lee and Kenyon your top choices. I'd also consider Davidson.

thanks for your advices!! Anymore comments? I really like Kenyon, Washington and Lee and grinnell... Just to ask, how's the social life there? and the intellectual atmosphere at these schools..
