Ok, so I got into WUSTL school of engineering. But they want to see my midyear and final year transcripts. My midyear grades are kinda bad (my school uses a 2-semester, 4 term per year schedule):

IB English HL-A,B
IB Math HL-B,C
IB Chemistry HL- A,B
IB Theory of Knowledge- A,A
IB History of Americas SL-B,A
AP Physics C-A,B

If averaged, these grades will be 5 As and 1 B, but IB classes aren't averaged, so my counselour sends the school a copy of my report card with a letter stating these are not final grades and will not be averaged until the year ends. But my counselor also said colleges know how grades of 2 terms are averaged (A+B=A, B+C=B, etc.). But unforunately the school will see my horrible grades.

So that's my midyear grades, my final grades will be much better, and more importantly, they will be averaged out and result in all As and 1 B.

So my main question now is: is the school likely to withdraw my decision?

Also when can the school choose to withdraw? Can they decide at any time or after they see midyear and final transcripts (final transcripts are obviously not out yet). I mean, it does look horrible, but probably not enough do indicate withdraeing my decision. IB senior year is difficult: Extended Essays, Internal Assessments, CAS, all plus 15 colleges apps (for me).

Your grades don’t look that horrible. The C is not good, but it’s not the end of the world, and anyways in the end it will be averaged out. I am fairly confident your acceptance will NOT be rescinded.

You can always give WashU a call and ask to make sure. The administration is so friendly. But yea, I really don’t think you’re going to be rescinded. Senior year is tough (for some people, it’s because the classes get harder, for other people…senioritis!)

If I do call, what exactly should I ask them? Whether my admission will be withdrawn?

Maybe you can say something like, although I did not preform as well as I could have during the second half of my senior year, I was wondering if my acceptance would be rescinded.

I don’t think they will because you didn’t get Ds or Fs. I think at most, they may send you a letter saying that your grades are not what the expected, and that you will be on academic probation or something like that. Don’t fret! I’m sure you’ll be just fine. :)

I am a little bit confused about transcripts. Haven’t we sent mid-year reports in Feb. before? why again?

o and DarkKnight I think your grades are not very terrible.

Good point… why are we talking about mid-year reports?

they asked for midyear reports without stating a deadline. I asked my counselor to send my midyear reports about a week before I got accepted. I’m just hoping WUSTL got them before releasing my decision, so I wouldn’t have to worry about it

if they have already seen my midyear reports then I’d have nothing to worry about for now, but I’m not sure if that’s the case because I turned in my midyear reports to my counselor, who would mail them, only 5-6 days prior to receiving my decision on 3/10, and I live in Maryland. It just seems unlikely that WUSTL would have received my midyear reports so quickly from so far away and notifying me of my decision so fast.

I am guessing it’s a non-issue, and I would NOT make any sort of pre-emptive phonecall, thus calling attention.

From what I understood to be the case from other very selective universities and LACs, your GPA would have to drop a lot more than what you itemized for your acceptance to be rescinded.

Don’t sweat it, say I. Instead, bask in and enjoy a wonderful acceptance.

agree with SWHarbor-- don’t draw any attention by calling them.

I disagree. If there’s a reason for the drop in grades, then it’s better to be proactive than reactive.

well I already sent them an email with a simple question: are midyear reports used before or after the applicant is notified? Because I turned my midyear report in 5-6 days priorr to receiving my decision, and 5-6 days (including Sat. and Sun.) don’t sound enough for my grades to arrive in MO from MD for the admissions office to view and use it to post my admission. And since the office is closed Sat and Sun, it’s really only 3-4 days.

If I’m wrong and the mailing was actually very fast and the admisisons office really did view them, then you can disregard everything I said.
