I know that we sign up classes during the orientation day. There are like five orientation days. If I wait until my orientation day to sign up, then is it possible that the students who attend the orientation before me take all the class spots?

Throughout orientation, UCSC will open more spots in many courses. Even on the last day, they will open more seats in some classes.

For the math class, we take the math placement exam on orientation day. Are they going to be able to give us the score for us to sign up for math class that day?

Nope. But don’t worry, everyone else who takes it will get their score at the same time you do. I took it at orientation and was able to sign up for Math 3, but I retook it during the first week of school and was able to change to Math 19A (calculus) because they were opening more slots in the classes even then. There’s little to worry about.

How long do we have to wait for the scores to be out?

I think it was a little less than a week.

So we don’t sign up for our math class until we know our scores?

5 days after the test is when your scores are out

The email said certain majors need to take the math test. Since I’m unsure whether I need to take it (i’m majoring in psych, but interested in taking pre-med courses) should I still come at 8am to take the exam?

psych majors must complete precalculus. health science majors must complete the 19A & B series. (They just recently made it so that health science majors don’t have to take multivariable calculus). So yes, phantomBMAN, it sounds like either way you’re going to want to take that test.

Just wondering, Is the math placement exam hard?

It includes trigonometry, linear equations, factoring, variables, fractions, all that crap.

I took a practice one, didn’t know jack squat (I completed pre-calc junior year, no math senior, so I forgot nearly everything).

Gonna spend this next week probably studying math I guess.

Where did you take the practice exam?
