I got into the business program whitman school of management. the school cost 61k and i got 42k financial aid without loans and work study. my other options are binghamton for harpur college, stonybrook, ohio state, penn state, and baruch college. wait listed for villanova. i am wondering if syracuse is worth going to for business
Ohio and Penn are rated slightly higher for business but Syracuse has the networking in its favor if you are interested in staying in NY. You have great choices. They gave you lots of money. Look at the financial implication of each school and go from there! Good luck!
I agree with @cbpmom - you have some good choices for business, and I would certainly say a SU education is worth $20K/yr, but the question is whether the other schools will cost you less, and whether you can afford it.
why the need for the help quickly when you have a month to decide?dbpmom, Penn State is not the same thing as Penn. Penn refers to University of Pennsylvania, the Ivy league school.
…don’t expect a dime for OOS for PSU, maybe a nickel. There right now and doing that!
and
which is completely true. Plus, Penn’s business school is Wharton which, if anything, is even more elite that Penn itself. Definitely a major error to confuse Penn and Penn State. And… Ohio State is not the same as Ohio University (the first is in Columbus, and the second is in Athens).
To the OP question itself
Yes, it is excellent and worth going to, but not worth paying much extra compared to Penn State or Ohio State. $61K minus $42K equals $19K per year. I would choose the lowest cost, unless they are all very similar in cost; in which case choose the one you like the most.
Sorry! ill clarify myself: Ohio State - Columbus. (waiting for financial aid) Penn State-Erie 2 yrs then 2yrs university park. (cost 26k without loans). Binghamton= 10k but for harpur college
If you truly want to major in business, then I recommend waiting until you get financial aid from OSU and choose between it and Syracuse.
I do not see any point in paying $7K per year more to attend PSU (especially starting out only at Erie) compared to Syracuse. If you want business then you cannot get it at Binghamton, although $10K is a great price. The only reason to consider Binghamton is if the cost of Syracuse or OSU is simply too high for your family’s budget.
For what it is worth, I am in supply chain management and the Whitman School at Syracuse is highly respected in that field. I also live in Columbus, Ohio. So, I am familiar with both of these schools. If you are a direct admit to Fisher at OSU, then you should seriously consider it. If not a direct admit, then I would go with Syracuse, unless OSU’s financial package is a lot better.
wow thank you! i want to make connections with people in NY so i think i will go to syracuse. I am directly admitted to Fisher at OSU. I am still waiting for Villanova business (waitlisted). If villanova gives me a better deal, i will most likely consider villanova.
I realize that UPENN Wharton and Penn State Smeal are totally different. He referenced Penn State. I just said Penn for the sake of quick response. Obviously if one got into Wharton it is a no brainer. Having now learned that you are not direct admit to Smeal, I would R/O Penn State. Just my opinion. I think someone that is set on a career in business should shoot for a school that gave you a direct admit to the business school, not one that you first have to work your way into.
That’s what I would do.
I would do that too. Villanova has an outstanding undergraduate business school.
