Hi, I’m looking to get some realistic recommendations for schools. Please no community colleges (I already know which ones I am applying to near home). I am interested in art history and religious studies. I have a 2.8 GPA (probably going up to 3.0 senior spring, if not higher) and a 33 (also going up) ACT score. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
In which state is your domicile. You best bet may be a public college in your home state.
Do you have a budget?
I’m from New York City, and I’m paying for my own college (a.k.a. SUNY/CUNY are great systems, but most people don’t realize how truly competitive they’ve become in the past five-ten years).
Run the prices for some of the catholic colleges and see if they would be affordable. For example, St. Bonaventure gets large numbers from the Long Island area (carpooling might work out for breaks!) and I think they have a nice art program (back when I went there decades ago a beautiful arts building was built) an I would think all the Catholic schools would have good religious studies programs. They also are great, supportive, friendly environments.
Are you independent or does your parents’ income determine your financial aid eligibility? If so, do you know your EFC?
You could try Hofstra - even with your GPA, you might get some merit aid, especially with your ACT score. It still might not be affordable, though, depending on your need-based eligibility. You can get there on the LIRR
Saint Rose in Albany.
