My son is in honors chem in 10th. should he take AP chem in 11th or physics as he is told physics is on state necaps and should be taken in 11. He feels AP chem would be easier after a year of honors chem, that it would be harder in 12th after a year away from it. He does not want to take both as he is taking AP ENGLISH and AP history along with electives. ADVICE APPRECIATED

If he needs physics for state exams, then that’s probably what he should take next year. Do you have a community college in your area where he could pick up a physics class this summer? Ours will let high school students take classes at no charge provided they submit guidance counselor recs and acceptable test scores. What is the standard path for students of similar ability at his hs?

That is exactly the situation we were in this year. My D had done very well in Chemistry non honors and we felt it would be easier for her to go straight into Chem 2 AP for her junior year, which she did. She is doing well, which is quite nice because she wasn’t in honors last year. She is taking Physics next year.
