On the app, should I list that my parents only made roughly $40,000 in 2008 and now in 2009?

Will this be in my favor? Or will they assume I can't pay, and it would be a disadvantage?

depends if u want financial aid or not…i mean if u think u can pay with your families money go for it…if not then id lower the income or not touch it

I definitely need financial aid.

So it’s not seen as I’m a disadvantaged student, and thus a more competitive applicant?

it’s not taken into consideration for admission, it can only benefit you

I didn’t put anything but that’s just because I didn’t want to see what they made when I was going back and revising the app lol.
I don’t think they use it for admissions and FAFSA should be what they use for financial aid, prob not this.

ur financial information will have no effect on ur decision or ur financial aid. the only reason why they put it there is if u qualify for EOPS. and u have to fill out FAFSA for FA. putting ur income in the app wont automatically qualify u for any FA…

It would only help you get a fee waiver.

At the UC system having a low income can only help you if anything.

well it says “Information in this step is used to supplement your application and help admissions evaluators understand the context of your achievements.” UC-wise, a lower income is definitely better. I applied last year and put my parents’ incomes and this year I didn’t; I don’t want them judging my achievements based on how much my parents earn, thank you very much.
