Does it help in admissions to visit a college prior to applying? I know the school I am interested in, and I have gone there informally. If I set up a formal tour or go for a weekend there formally, will it help in selection?

If you're talking Ivies, Standford, MIT then most definitely not. You can camp out at their campus for a month and they're going to take no notice.

However, there are some less-known colleges who do do that. Very few though. And some of them have been exposed- I really don't think this trend is going to last.

If you're really worried though, and you're going to be there anyway, then you'd might as well just make it formal.

Yes. Yes it will.

It can't hurt, and you will learn somethings

But don't jsut do things to "look good"
