help: transfer engineering

hi. i just found out that i got accepted into engineering, but because i'm still waiting for my green card i don't get any financial aid. my parents could only afford $20000, but they said that i could just take out a loan if i really want to go to cornell. is that a good idea, or would i be in so much debt by the time i graduate? any insights?

Which major(s) did you apply to and when/how did you find out? You may be qualified for financial aid if you applied for it but the odds aren't that great. Whether the debt will be worth it should really be up to you and your parents to figure out, though I honestly do not think you will be able to get any loans from U.S. banks without permanent resident status.

i got an email from the department saying that i got accepted into the electrical and computer engineering program w/ a minor in biomedical...i did apply for aid...but the office said only 2-3 transfer students got aid..

When did you receive such email? This morning? I applied to ECE as well still nothing though.

I got the email yesterday afternoon, but I had been emailing the engineering office for the decision cause I had to confirm my enrollment to another university by this week.

Ahh, ok.
Well, good luck with your decision.

Are you a foreigner coming to the U.S., an illegal alien living in the US, or what? Also, what school did you transfer from? Since you dont have a green card, i presume it was a school abroad. I had never heard of a transfer from a school in another country; that's kinda neat i guess.

That said, 1) Cornell doesnt give a lot of transfers finanicial aid, 2) Cornell doesnt many international students financial aid, and 3) you cant get a loan in the U.S. without being a resident.

So...uh...yeah, good luck with that.

1) Cornell doesnt give a lot of transfers finanicial aid
Does that apply to all transfers in general? Can you be a bit more specific?
Transfering from schools abroad is possible but pretty rare I would think.

Nah, in retrospect cornell is OK with transfer financial aid, esp from in-state NY schools. I like to make blanket statements, but, that said, i dunno bc im not a transfer!
