Help: Tulane vs. SMU Cox School of Business?

Second DD now choosing between schools and needs help if you’ve faced this scenario. She has visited both campuses, wants to pursue a degree in Management and/or Finance. Dallas has great internship possibilities, but she feels like she’d mesh better with Tulane students, but liked SMU’s campus more (serious student, loves socializing, so she’d probably like both places, but I worry abt the cutthroat rush at SMU). We are not from Texas and realize about half at SMU are from TX. Partial scholarships at both. Also Waitlisted at WashU and appealing the USC TTP offer, so maybe either of those will pull through. Brutal year for stellar candidates!

If Tulane is a better fit and you can afford it, then go with Tulane

Why is that?

Go with your gut feel regarding Tulane vs SMU.

Sorority rush at SMU for D20 wasn’t as big of a deal as I thought it would be. Then again, it was during Covid so I’m not sure how much that altered things. Houses want to make connections to pick the best fits. 60% of students are from OOS. According to the common data set, 35% of females and 26% of male go Greek.

If a student has a preference and can afford 2 choices, then the preferred choice is the better choice. Once you remove cost out of the equation, fit matters, and it’s very personal, each student defines this, there’s no “one size fits all”.
This student prefers Tulane so, Tulane is the best choice for them. If another student prefers SMU, then SMU is the best choice for them – cost being affordable for both.
