Help!!! UNC or UVA???

I am seriously considering unc chapel hill and university of virginia. Whenever i imagine myself going to one of them, i keep looking at the other and think that i might regret my choice. I have no idea which one i should go to....

Considering the fact that:
a) I'm korean and ive never lived in america before (i've been there for like 2 weeks for vacation, but that was quite some time ago). UNC seems rather slim on international students...could that be a problem?

b) plan on majoring psychology (i guess this isn't of the greatest importance, since psychology seems to be one of those majors offered everywhere and it doesn't really matter where you study it in your undergraduate years...or am I wrong?? If you think so please say so)

Which would you recommend????

Both are awesome. I prefer UNC because it has more school spirit and is more liberal. Academically and reputationallly, UVA is only marginally better than UNC. Plus UNC is a slightly better deal financially.

Thank you for the reply. But what exactly do you mean by liberal???

Liberal as opposed to conservative. UVa is one of the more conservative elite universities. It is still relatively liberal mind you, but I prefer the generally more tolerant and liberal vibe at UNC.

I used to live in very close vicinity of UNC… The vibe you get at UNC is unprecedented… Like others have said UVA is a lot more close minded than its north carolina counterpart.

I would not phrase it as strongly as principalviola. Chapel Hill is awesome, but Charlottesville and other college towns are just as nice. UVa is not “a lot more” close minded than UNC, it is simply more conservative.

Sorry about that… They are not close minded, I guess I am too strong of a liberal. Nothing against conservatism, both are amazing schools and I would love to go to either.

If you got in at each, and one was significantly less expensive, I’d choose it. Qualitatively, they’re not so dissimilar as to merit a lot of additional cost for one.

well uva is a few thousand dollars more expensive and i see your point since i also get the impression that putting them side by side they are not so very different. But somehow i got the impression that uva has a more expensive (???) feeling to it. I guess it’s because of the brochures that i got (uva’s is a bit more “nicer” compared to unc’s).

But putting aside all that, my primary concern is that going to unc might mean a hard time for me,being an outsider and all. If the majority of the school is from north carolina (all the north carolineans hanging out with each other), im afraid it might be harder for me than uva where there’s a bit more mixturea(not a lot, but more than unc).
