I’ve taken the October SAT and got a 1150 (600 english and 550 math) which is embarrassing as hell considering my practice tests ranged from a 1300-1330. I only have a month until the December SAT. I signed up at Khan Academy so it tells me what I’m weak in, and I’m currently studying the Kallis’ book, Princeton elite 1600 and Princeton practice book, and McGraw to review math. Am I doing anything wrong? I want to up my score by at least 200 points, but I’m getting nervous. I don’t know how to correctly prep for this test.
The easiest score to improve is math(in my opinion). The stuff on khan academy is enough for SAT math if you ask me. So just do EVERY SINGLE question on Khan academy (math) and bring up each topic to level 4. Make sure to focus especially on your weakest topics. Retake old practice tests and aim to get everything right. Redo them until you know how to solve every single math question on a particular test. Then move on to another. You’ll see that these tests have repeated concepts. You can do it.
If you retake and see that you’re getting the same ones wrong…then you’ll know where the problem is. Hope that helped
What did you score on PSAT and ACT?
@ClarinetDad16 PSAT isn’t offered where I live and ACT isnt common enough for me to be comfortable with taking it
@CrimsonZa thank you so much! Wish me luck
Where do you live?
I know a lot of people will disagree with me about this, but you’re probably getting nervous because you’re trying way too hard. If you got 1300s on your practice tests then you just had a bad day while taking the actual test (maybe you were too nervous on the actual test day?) If you chill out and just retake the test, your score may very well go up to around your practice test score without any additional prep.
I’m a firm believer that overprepping for tests will
make you score worse bc you get way too nervous
I would recommend using the College Board official book. Other books aren’t necessarily the most accurate. Also, I found that the Prep Scholar website has many useful articles. Good luck!
review what you got wrong and understand why you got them wrong in practice tests
Khan Academy really doesn’t make too much of a difference in my opinion… Truthfully, I’d say to just join an SAT class or get a private tutor. Online/self teaching can only go so far, and I think seeing a teacher face to face really makes a difference. You could easily score high 1300’s with the right teacher. They’re the professionals when it comes to the SAT
