UVa or WAKE?
Majoring in the Communications/Business field. I would also like to write.
I'm not sure how well I would thrive in a bigger college environment.
*I'm from Texas and cost is not an issue

Uva
Pros- Charolettesville, academic rep, diversity, business school
Cons- Big school 14,000, little attention from teachers, no communications degree

Wake
Pros- Close-knit, small school 4,500, Communication major and Journalism minor
Cons- Winston Salem, lack of diversity, "Work Forest"

If you have any personal experiences or know anyone who does, please please share!

I don’t know much about Wake but I know a guy at UVA who was in something else undergrad (IR if I recall correctly) and is now doing master in communications. I am comm major as well and actually he told me that only a small percentage of comm major in gradschool also had comm major back in undergrad. Most of them did something else undergrad and many agree that it helps them better that way.

So, my educated guess is that if you want to get a bachelor degree in communication then go right to the job market and do something before coming back for grad school then Wake will be your place.

If you are planning to go right to gradschool after undergrad, considering that UVA has a biz school and academic rep, UVA would be a better choice.

and the curricular focus there is often described as “Jeffersonian.” It has a similar preppy, Greekish vibe, and is a rival in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The median SATs and acceptance rates are similar, and this year the two schools are tied at #25 in the US News rankings. Its either UVA or “UVA Lite.” :)

For business, recruiting is stronger at UVa. Especially if you get into McIntire. The schools may be ranked close, but UVa has a better reputation among the business community. The alumni network is also larger and stronger.
