Visited both schools and were very impressed, but Richmond campus and facilities seemed superior. My daughter is considering a major within the business school, and I would appreciate any feedback and/or experiences regarding how these two universities compare. Thank you!

I would say Wake Forest University, definately a school to consider. I don’t know much about University of Richmond.

Wake is more well-known, but both have superior business schools and are pretty similar in other aspects as well (southern, prominent greek life, etc) if you got a better feel for Richmond then I would say go Richmond because they are academically comparable in my opinion.

And to the above poster, how can you recommend Wake over Richmond if you don’t know anything about Richmond?..

Because I’ve never even heard of University of Richmond, and I can remember nearly every university I’ve come across.

I feel as though the two schools are very comparable, with Wake having the edge in terms of being more well known, and big time collegiate athletics and slightly larger. UR will have an expansion of the B-school completed in time for the second semester of the class of 2014’s freshman year (wow…have I been out that long already?!). I think UR has a better geographic location though with the proximity to the beach, DC and the mountains. I had some friends attend WF and really enjoy it. Given the comparable nature of the two, I’d say go with whichever makes you feel more comfortable.

Coolbreeze, you must not be reading the USNWR annual issue, because Univ. of Richmond is ranked #12 in the country for their undergrad business school, the Robins School of Business. And overall, UR is ranked #32 in the country in LACs. Our daughter had Wake on her short list but far preferred her day shadowing classes at UR. That made her decision. Both are fantastic schools.

cool, in fact, given your desired majors of economics (which contrary to one of your posts in a different thread doesn’t really require a whole lot of math – it’s largely theory based and not too difficult), international relations/business or poly-sci, I’m SHOCKED you haven’t heard of UR, especially given that BusinessWeek ranked UR’s undergraduate business was ranked higher than Wake’s, which you seem pretty fond of. In microecon, UR was ranked #4 in the country and #1 in macro. Wake was #66 and #38, respectively. [Undergraduate Business Specialties: The Best of the Best](http://bwnt.businessweek.com/bschools/undergraduate/09rankings/specialty.asp) UR also featured the smallest core class size of the top 100 schools ranked according to BuisnessWeek.

I think you should probably do some more research on UR and if you have any questions, feel free to stop back by.

I will look more into University of Richmond, seems like a respected school for my prospective studies.

Thank you all for your opinions, we greatly appreciate them.

UR impressed us not only as a school that is on the rise, but by what seemed to be its attention and commitment to each student as an individual. Aside from that, the campus and the facilities are some of the most beautiful we’ve seen so far.

Born and raised in Winston-Salem here. First of all, it seems obvious to me that Richmond would be a better place to spend four years than W-S. I’m glad I don’t live in W-S anymore.

Secondly, do you know any WF alumni? The few alumni I know aren’t very happy about the direction Wake is going in. Details? I have no idea and I don’t ask. But these are people who graduated from Wake decades ago and keep up with Wake and their discontent is obvious.

In contrast, I would bet that the average UR alum is happy with the direction UR is going.

Finally, if business administration is “your thing” then you can’t go wrong with UR.

My daughter went back and forth on her decision quite a bit. She is a freshman and will go into business

She decided on Richmond and turned down Wake Forest, Boston College and Emory

bbbgirl:

That’s very interesting to hear and thanks for posting. The schools you mention that your daughter turned down, are all on our list, too. Would love to have an update from you on her experiences at Richmond as the year progresses.

Best wishes to your daughter for a wonderful and fulfilling year.
