Help w/luggage? Duffel bag or regular suitcase.

Just a simple question. I've been looking at some huge duffel bags, like these one's here:

My question is, does a huge duffel bag hold more than a huge suitcase? I went with a suitcase last year and had alot of trouble fitting all my stuff in it. It seems like a duffel bag might hold more since it isn't as rigid. Any thoughts?

Well if you have to fly, remember the domestic baggage allowance is two bags at 50lbs per bag for domestic flights, universal throughout the airline industry. If you're flying internationally, some airlines allow you to put 2 bags at 70lbs per bag.

If you're flying, carry a suitcase. If you're not, and you need to fit a lot of stuff, I guess go for the duffel, but the thing about duffels is that it can't be rolled.

Get a duffy. That way you can use it in the gym when you get to college.

I haven't seen 40-inch duffles at the gym unless someone is carrying sparring equipment, bats, lacrosse sticks... (then again I never go to the gym). I say go with the suitcase. They hold about the same. 50 pounds go by FAST, so don't go too big.

duffels are flexible with space while suitcases offer better support and storage. I second the idea that if ur flying, use a suitcase. If not then a duffel bag should be enough.

if you're flying it's better to have a duffel bag. It doesn't weight as much as the suitcase and you can put more luggage in.

agreed with katjadodo

you can get a large ROLLING duffel bag. plus when you get to school duffels are easier to store than large suitcases.

If you have to buy stuff, you can take a rolling bag to the store and dump whatever you buy into it.

Whatever you get, get a ROLLING bag (bags with wheels.)

You might consider a medium rolling suitcase and a medium duffle. You can put the duffle on the handle of the rolling case when you're walking, or sling it over your arm.
Both duffle and suitcase are useful for different things. The suitcase is kinder to your clothes, and the duffle is great for weekend trips to the city or overnights. They are both useful for storage in your dorm, under your bed or in a closet. You can always store the duffle in your suitcase, along with items you don't need very often.

I'm bringing a huge suitcase next year (could hold multiple toddlers) and a smaller duffle for extra stuff and for when I come home for winter break.

Having 2 will make sure you will be able to fit everything as well as having the option of bringing a smaller one when you come home and aren't bringing all your stuff.

I'm a bonified suitcase hater. Duffels are pretty much amazing; once I fit two weeks worth of clothes (that's one outfit per day) in a regular-sized duffel you'd see folks carry to the gym. And yes, they weigh about ten pounds less and CAN roll, plus storage...ahh, it's bliss.

I guess suitcases have their perks. Carrying nice clothes in duffel bags is a real ***** as everything tends to get wrinkly (at least for me), and they are easier to live out of because they're overall neater. Also if you have stuff like a hair dryer or whatever, there's no guaruntee it won't be smashed if it's not in a proper suitcase.

But duffel suits me ;).
