I took my first SAT in January and got an 1850: 650 on writing, 600 math, 600 reading. I'm taking them again in June and then again in the fall. I want to get my writing up to a 680-700, my math up to a 670, and my reading up to 670 by my last SAT. I'm looking into an international relations major or just going in undecided. I'm afraid that because I don't play any sports and because I live out of state I have no chance of getting in! What do you all think? Thanks!

Oh and I forgot to add that I plan on pursuing leadership positions in NHS, Rho Kappa, and FBLA next year along with running for reelection for class treasurer.

I FORGOT! I’m Caucasian, will be applying early decision, and will interview this summer. My essay skills are superb so I think my application essay will be fine.

I am a naturally unathletic person. I played sports in middle school but it’s just not my thing. I’m very well rounded and it’s not like I don’t play sports because I don’t feel like it…thanks for your honesty but that was pretty rude.

I highly doubt no having athletic achievements is not that much of an issue. Unless you’re going to be a top athlete at college, how much can it matter to them anyway, as long as you have strong ecs

Your GPA is great, but you might want to work on your SAT scores because they don’t really correlate with how good your GPA is. Also, you could try the ACT and see if that is a better test for you. Everything else looks good too – don’t worry about the sports, that was a silly comment above and I think (hope) they were just being sarcastic. Early Decision is great, but being out of state is harder than in state. Visit the campus, though, and make sure that it is still the great match it was when you were 11. People change, campuses have different “feels” – the place I wanted to go with all my heart when I was 13 isn’t where I’m going, but W&M is the current perfect match for me! Good luck!

the 50% range of SAT scores for OOS is 1390 to 1450. I believe this was said on their admit it blog and by the admission counselor on the CC website

Thank you! I’ve actually visited the campus twice in the past year. So if I can get my SAT’s to above a 2000 and take (and do well on) the ACT, do you think that will improve my chances?

IF you are OOS (i do not know if you mentioned this earlier) having high scores will help. It wont guarantee 100% acceptance but it can not hurt!

My S will be graduating this May from W&M major in English and minor in Music. He was accepted Early Decision back in 2009 (December 1 2008 to be exact). His SAT was 2000+ so I agree with the rest of the comment that you should improve your SAT. GPA was 3.7 unweighted, 3rd in a small graduation class of 35. No sports at all (and I agree that sports will not factor much) but lots of service/volunteer work (Service Awardee for the graduating class). He took some of the hardest courses in HS, received his IB Diploma in May 2009 (thus, not sure if it really counts - but having IB or AP in your resume will surely help). We live out of state - actually - out of continental US, Asian and has lived in 3 different locations. I believe one reason for my S acceptance was diversity.

Hope this helps - and good luck. And if W&M is really your first choice, apply ED. My S selected W&M for ED from a toss coin between W&M and NYU - and he did not regret it all.
