Help! What are my chances of Phillips Exeter/Andover (boarding schools) at ninth grade?

I would love to attend a boarding school at ninth grade, and I absolutely LOVE Andover and Exeter.
I am Chinese, though I have lived in the US for all of my life.
I am in 7th grade at NYC at Hunter College High School
I just got my progress report at my new school with straight As and 4 A-s
I am taking the SAT this year, aiming for at least 650 on the math part
I participate in Debate and Track team and Quizbowl and Key Club (community service club) and the JCAC (Jewish cultural society) and Science Bowl and Studio 94 (which has monthly concerts in senior centers)
I write for one of the school's newpapers
I've played piano for 8 years, majoring in Manhattan School of Music.
I 've played violin for 6 years, and I played once at Carnegie Hall in an orchestra
I do 2 choruses; one at school and one at MSM (Manhattan School of music precollege) for 2 years
I play flute-3 years at my old school
I've been in a program at my old school for 2 years- honor students who gets free trips to Club Getaway and a broadway musical

Please tell me my chances for these schools!!! :) I'd really appreciate them, without any criticism please!!

Exeter and Andover are looking for students with many interests, and you seem to have that. They also want students who are passionate about learning academics as well as have great curiosity and experience with extracurricular actives such as Music and Sports. I can see that you fulfill all the stuff said above. Which is great, now it depends on your SSAT scores, an acceptable score is 94% overall, but 93 or 92 can maybe be passed as well, but don’t depend on that, if you have scores lower than 85% overall, you might have trouble getting in, show your passion of these schools by researching certain courses you would like to take and explain that at you interview. Also, you should show what you can bring to the table for these schools and see how you can contribute to the school. If you can do that, you have a very good chance.

My daughter scored high on the SSAT and those schools tried to recruit her, but she wasn’t interested in a boarding school. So I agree that a high SSAT score will make it possible for you to get in, as they place a lot of emphasis on that. Just in case your score is not what you are hoping, I would research some other boarding schools as backup, both in the USA and in Europe. You will definitely get in somewhere you love! You’re doing amazing things.

Thanks so much! If you don’t mind me asking, how much did your daughter get on her SSAT?

@‌Anonymousia - Tell me what you love about Andover and Exeter. Why do you want to go to BS?

I’ll chance you without a SSAT score if you’ll answer those two questions.

I love Andover and Exeter because they are, and this may sound really cheesy but it is the truth, schools that I think will motivate me with bright students. It would be similar to my current school, yes, but there are many other opportunities there; I want to minor in fashion design and I heard that there was a successful fashion show at Exeter recently. I like andover because its very laidback, giving more responsibility and freedom. I want to continue to ice skate (I’ve done figure skating before but had to quit because it took up too much time) and swim competitively, and they have great facilities at both andover and exeter.
I want to go to b.s. b/c I prosper independently and I’ve been learning independantly for a long time: I’ve went to a piano festival sleepaway camp for 2 years and a technology camp for 2 years. My parents don’t English very well, so I’ve been handling application and financial aid forms since I was in 5th grade. I like the idea of closer bonding with friends as well as teachers and I always leave my sleepaway camps feeling more campsick than homesick!

Oh, and I also want to add: I’m going to create a club next year at school sewing clothes and selling them to raise money for charity. In addition, I will be also creating a fashion blog next year!
I also recently entered the scholastic art and writing comp with a writing piece that I think was pretty good. Ill be waiting for the results at the end of Jan!
