Im a rising junior, I did well in Pre-Cal ( A B A A) but I just barely got As (low 90s). I want to get As in whatever math I take next year. Is BC Calc significantly harder and heavier in homework load than AB Calc? Thanks in advance.

Sorry I can't help because in my school there isn't a choice to skip calc ab. :p

Same here...AB is a prereq for BC. I would stick to AB. It would be different if you got high nineties in Precalc.

NO!!! AB should NEVER be a prereq for BC!! Take BC it's not hard. I took precalc in a private institute and skipped precalc in high school but I got the highest grade in the class for BC and five and a subscore five on the AP. So DEFINITELY take BC. It's not really hard btw.

If she really wants an A in math and got a low A in PREcalc, then she should probably stick with AB. Yes, my school is semi retarded, but since very few get As in BC and say that AB helped them, making it a prereq was probably...wise?

SBA, I'll say talk to your gc and see what he/she has to say.

well i would also recommend what x________x said (too long to type lol)

Also go to ur BC and AB teacher and ask their opinions.

First off: I'm not a girl.

Thanks for your comments, but I'm still undecided. I'm getting mixed signals...how hard IS bc? I need to decide today because I'm pretty sure this is the deadline.

Damn. I'm sorry.

Uhhh. It's basically impossible for anyone here to tell you how hard BC will be at your school. That's why we suggested talking to your gc and miracle suggested the AB and BC teachers. Where I come from, Calc is one of the hardest classes in the school. So if you've got a deadline, all I can say is try and get in touch with someone who has taken AB and BC.

Imo, the stuff in precalc is pretty different from calc, so your performance in precalc is not necessarily a good indicator for how well you will do in calc. And you might be better at one part of calc than another, who knows? I took precalc honors, which started calc, and I did really well and loved it, then I took calc bc and hated it. Did your precalc class already cover some intro to calc? If so, you should definitely take BC.

Precalc is definately different from calculus. It doesn't really prepare you for calc other than the trig stuff and limits. I took precalc and calc A junior year and then calc BC senior year. Calc BC material is not neccessarialy harder than AB. You just have more stuff to cover than AB, which in people's opinion may or may not be harder than calc AB. But I thought Calc BC was easier than Calc A because I had a great teacher for BC (she wrote the cliff notes for Ap calculus). In BC we only spent 3 weeks reviewing for Calc A, so if you can keep up with the pace of spending 2-3 weeks reviewing for Calc A then take BC. Other wise stick with AB. BtW BC test has a much bigger curve than the calc ab test, so its easier to get a 5.

Plus you get an AB subscore on the BC exam, so you don't have to worry about "but i'll do better if I just take AB..."

I think it's funny how at my school, BC is much easier than AB because the BC teacher is so much better! LOL!
