Help with a stain

I bought my husband an expensive pair of lululemon pants. He bled on them. He then wore the pants for a few more days. sigh. I put spray and wash on them and washed them twice. The stain is still there.

I probably washed them in warm water. Sigh.

Is there anything I can do now to get this stain out. They were his “nice” pair of pants. He of course doesn’t care that they have a big stain on the front and says that he will still wear them. Sigh

This is why I usually don’t buy him nice things

Have you tried hydrogen peroxide? I would apply a small amount to an inconspicuous area to make sure it does not wreck the fabric. With a new stain, it is usually a slam dunk. Might or might not work on an old stain.

H is on blood thinners, so I’ve had plenty of experience in blood stains. Assuming you didn’t put the pants in the dryer, there still is hope. I’ve had good luck using hydrogen peroxide & Carbona Stain Devil Blood, Dairy & Ice Cream. Hydrogen Peroxide can have mild bleaching properties, so best to test in an inconspicuous area first.

Edit to add that I see BB had the same comment. I don’t know if Carbona has any adverse effects on fabric dye, but prudent to test it too.

I don’t know that I would try this first and I know it sounds weird because this product can sometimes CAUSE stains, but a couple of times I treated grease stains and they did not come out and I tried a second round method of WD40 on the stains. I feel like I put it on, waited less than an hour and then washed. Both times the grease stain came out.

Think others have you covered on blood (sorry for how that reads). For stain prone households, I find it handy to keep a bottle of The Laundress Stain Solution on hand. Have found it gentle on fabrics and very effective on a variety of stains. I have ordered from Amazon; not sure if stores sell it. It is not cheap, but a little goes a long way. Good luck with everything.

So many Instagram “home” people I follow love this stuff. Don’t know if they are all getting a cut from it or if it’s truly a “miracle” product! (I know it says carpet and upholstery…)

I use their wine stain remover and it is good. Their others should be too. The messy eater gets good Amazon reviews. All The Hate Stains Co. Collection

Thanks, tried hydrogen peroxide and while I could see that it was working (fizzed) it didn’t take the stain completely out.

Thanks for the other suggestions. My husband has some medical issues and he does bleed more than most but I’ve never had a problem getting the stains out.

I’ll keep trying

I use Shout. It seems to always do the trick.

You might need a few more hydrogen peroxide treatments, especially if your hydrogen peroxide is not very fresh (it does not store well).

I’d use OxyClean instead of liquid hydrogen peroxide like you’d get for first aid. Sometimes liquid H202 can have a yellowing effect. Soak it in the OxyClean according to their stain directions (may take a couple of hours).

Agree with repeated applications with time in between. As long as you see any fizzing, it’s working. You could also try adding a drop of Dawn with the hydrogen peroxide. I worked on some small blood stains on sheets and it took maybe 10 applications before it was barely noticeable.

With fresh stains, cold water and hydrogen peroxide have always done the trick for me.

Another vote for hydrogen peroxide here. If the blood stain doesn’t come out right away, I’d reapply, I find that with stubborn stains you need to use a little elbow grease,i.e., get a bar of Fels Naptha Soap and rub out the stain with it. You can get Fels Naphtha in most grocery stores; it’s a very old-time stain remover that works pretty well. My Mom used it back in the day!!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I’m soaking in oxi clean right now. This has been very helpful.

Worked great for me recently on a blueberry smoothie stain on my white t-shirt. Good luck!

Call Lululemon, they are very good at knowing what to use for various stains on their different fabrics (some of which are pretty unique).

Hydrogen Peroxide is my first line of treatment. For stubborn stains, I have good luck with a bar of Fels Naptha soap. It’s cheap and usually available at the grocery or drug store. I keep a bar at the laundry sink and use a brush to rub it into stains. Leave it a bit and wash again.

Off topic but wishing your daughter a successful surgery.

America’s Test Kitchen tested a number of stain removers. Soaking in OxyClean worked best. They found that sometimes the longest recommended soaking time is necessary.

I swear by the OxyClean products. The white revive (non-bleach) in particular is great. For tough stains I’ve soaked 6 or so hours then used a spot cleaning brush. For really tough stains it has taken multiple tries but works most of the time.

I haven’t found a solution for a rust stain. That one proved too much. :triumph:
