Help With Admissions Question!

Hi, I have a question regarding how Cornell views their applicants' scores. More specifically, how does their "score choice" work? Here's my situation and statistics:

I am applying to the school of engineering (reach school). I did best on the ACT with a composite score of 31 (34 eng 31 math 31 rd 29 sci). However, here is the issue: when sending in the common application, I wasn't entirely sure about how I should approach sending scores. I self reported BOTH my ACT score and my SAT score, which I did poorly on (superscore 1920, I think: 690 rd 610 math 620 wr). I also recently took math2 and physics subject tests, which I think I got low 700s on. I was recently told by someone that I should have just sent in the ACT and SAT subject tests without the SAT1 to improve my app.

Will my submission of the poor SAT1 score be detrimental to my application (specifically the 610 math for engineering)? Or, will Cornell view my 31 ACT and accept it as my BEST score?

I appreciate all answers, as it will calm my nerves lol.

Thanks

I do not believe Cornell takes the self report information on the CommomApp seriously, or even looks at it at all. You absolutely can send just you ACT along with the subject tests without the SAT1. This is what I did, and from everything I have heard it is perfectly acceptable. Just send all SAT 2s and ACTs. But to answer your other question, Cornell says that they will take the highest score in to consideration, and a 31 is def. superior to a 1920, so they should use it to make the decision. They are human beings though, so its not like they won’t see the 1920 which may leave a “bad taste” in their mouths. Good Luck!

Talking to admissions officers from numerous schools, I’ve learned that it never exactly hurts to send both scores. Typically they only look at the test you did better on, ACT or SAT. Some applicants don’t do well on the SAT for whatever reason, some can’t take the ACT, some do equally on both. Don’t worry about sending a low SAT, they’ll just use your ACT to decide.

Cornell doesn’t accept score choice. If you need to submit either the SAT 1 or SAT IIs, you are REQUIRED to send in both of them. You can’t pick and choose.

@AlphaOrionis I’m pretty sure you are mistaken. Cornell doesn’t subscribe to Score Choice in any way, shape, or form. I don’t know where you got information to the contrary…

I emailed admissions over a month ago asking if it would okay to send in just SAT IIs, excluding the SAT I, and then also send the ACT, and she replied that it is acceptable. So by doing that, I think you do utilize the score choice

^ Well if you emailed them than I guess it is acceptable, but that doesn’t change the fact that their publicly stated policy says no score choice. Cornell is going to consider your highest score anyway so it shouldn’t really matter either way. If the admissions office says its okay, I would assume your safe doing it, but I would be hesitant to go against the actual policy.
