The question I'm referring to is question 8 of section 5 and test 1. Pg.402
The book says that the answer is B but I am completely clueless why it so.
Any help will be appreciated and thank you in advance.

Hey ccprofile!

The question asks, “Which of the following would most likely be found at the beginning of this study?”

According to the passage, the study “aims to start with the functions that have drawn people to cities…”

So YOUR prediction as to the answer should be, “something that draws people to cities in the olden days.”

Go throught the answer choices:

(A) EW! crime…that wouldn’t draw people to cities… Eliminate it!
(B) Central market places…could draw some people to the cities…Let’s leave it.
(C) Famous people? Probably not.
(D) Architectural Challenges… That’s not going to draw people to the cities… Take it out.
(E) Ancient Archeological sites worth visiting today? Wouldn’t apply to back the olden days… Eliminate it!

You are now left with just (B). Bubble that one in!

Hope this helps!

Thanks a lot.The For some reason I went with option C.But the explanation clears up the confusion.

BTW are there any other approaches to tackle this question?

Hey ccprofile!

I’m sure many people could go straight to the answer choices, but I’m a big proponent of Process of Elimination because the extra couple of seconds tend to make students A LOT more accurate.
