Honors College Essay Prompt:
In its mission statement, the UIC Honors College is described as a community of scholars whose goal is to enrich the education experience of undergraduates and allow the faculty and students of all disciplines to interact in teaching, learning and research. How can you contribute to the Honors College community? What benefits do you expect in return (500 words or less)?

The Honors College at UIC provides a lot of interesting opportunities for its students. The first way I can help at the Honors College at UIC is by providing beneficial ideas to help expand UIC beyond the school walls. One of my ideas for the Honors College is to start a group activity designed to make freshman life easier at campus. The club could be called Freshman Help 101, and the upperclassmen of the group could teach you how to handle college courses, routines, etc. Another idea I had for the Honors College is to build a greenhouse and turn that into a community service organization. For example, I was thinking that we could plant fruits and vegetables inside the greenhouse and then donate the fresh produce to the local food pantries. This would be a great way for people to collaborate with each other while getting to help the community. I expect a lot of Honors College considering that it is an elite group of people. The members of Honors College are more brilliant and unique than the average person at a college, so I would expect a response that is quite different. What I mean by this is, since the members of Honors College are of higher level, I would expect them to give insight on new ways to improve the community and the campus. People will say, Oh, even any average person could do this. This isnt true at all. As a member of Honors College, you are expected to have more maturity and curiosity than the normal college student, and I would want to reap the rewards of that. When I walk in, I would expect them to greet me warmly, and then for all of us to proceed into group discussions on how to help the ecosystem around us.
